• xEdit says "modgroup is invalid", what does that mean? It means you are using the wrong load order. This is the load order that gives the correct overrides: Relationship Dialogue Overhaul.esp Cutting Room Floor.esp Guard Dialogue Overhaul.esp Weapons Armor Clothing & Clutter Fixes.esp Awesome Artifacts.esp MLU.esp Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp
• Why does the mod override base weapons and armors? GDO needs to add a keyword to the base items so that all the enchanted variants of those items inherit the keyword from the base item templates, which allows guards to comment on all the generic variants. Guards would not be able to recognize any enchanted variants or named variants such as Queen Freydis' Sword without those overrides. Weapon and armor overhauls such as WACCF carry forward GDO's keywords so that you only need to load it after GDO for compatibility.
• Is GDO compatible with this other mod I found? If you need to ask then yes, it's compatible.
I am not aware of anything that could cause issues when switching from ESP to ESL midgame with this mod. But you can remove and then update if you want to be certain.
Some of my patches broke. Referenced records now turn up as injected by the patch plugins because they were orphaned, after the compression. In my case, I manually renumbered these two records in ESPFE and all looks good (so far) [UPDATE - I found a couple more and I'm reverting to the ESP for a quiet life. One example is the Nexus patch for Skyrim Unbound Reborn, which I run]
I have patches from USMP and Sons of SKyrim, I guess they may need updating but I'm not sure if they're crucial like a patch for an overhaul mod like Unbound Reborn would be. Anyone have any knowledge about these? I'm not quite expert enough to check it for myself like SteveTownsend sadly Although I can's t see any missing masters from M02, which I guess is good...
Existing patches need to be modified to work with ESL version, they need to be loaded in sseedit at the same time as when GDO is compacted so best to leave old version up somewhere for mod authors to use for patch compacting
I think I know what the issue is. The header version of the ESLified version of GDO is 1.710000, meaning it has the extended ESL range introduced in 1.6.1130. You need xEdit 4.1.5b from the xEdit Discord, otherwise you'll run into problems. Nice thing is, changing the header version in that version of xEdit will also "convert" the plugin. Just save and relaunch xEdit to see the change applied.
4.1.5c is already available on Github. But it sounds like the patch would be incompatible regardless.
I do not recommend trying to convert it back to the old ESL range for gameplay use, it would cause problems. People who aren't playing on the new game versions should install this mod that makes the extended ESL range backwards compatible with the older game versions.
It's a file for SSEEdit which helps with conflict resolution. It will also make SSEEdit display an error if the user has got the wrong load order which is its main purpose in this mod.
Most patches do not need to reference any original records in GDO, only its overrides and its injected records. But yes, some patches will not work, which is why the ESP version is still available. I did explain that this would happen when people requested the ESL version.
oh, thanks for response & updates. Came back to Skyrim after 3+ years. Was going through every mod which I used back then. Its always good to see such old mod having updates. I got too much to catch on :v
That's just a myth, SteveTownsend. Skyrim has never and will never be affected by that sort of changes in load order. The game dynamically remaps all form IDs on runtime, it does not need to be the same load order every time. Any issues caused by a change in load order comes from the actual order the mods are overwriting each other in, not by a shift in form IDs. The Mod Author discord says that the only mod that's ever had such an issue is the .dll file in Schlongs of Skyrim because it's coded poorly, but chuckseven1 released a fix for that.
The default version of the MCM add-on should be fine, and so should most patches but I can't say for certain, it depends on what they modify. If they only modify vanilla records or add GDO keywords to items then there won't be any problems. Translations are what definitely won't work.
*The MCM addon has now been updated for the new version.

It means you are using the wrong load order. This is the load order that gives the correct overrides:
Relationship Dialogue Overhaul.esp
Cutting Room Floor.esp
Guard Dialogue Overhaul.esp
Weapons Armor Clothing & Clutter Fixes.esp
Awesome Artifacts.esp
MLU.esp
Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp

thanks for these updates :)

The ESP version can be used for patch compacting.

The ESL version does not look correct to me in xEdit. I reported as a bug and I could be wrong, but I would recommend using the ESP version for now.
I am an idiot, I think, I thought I was on up to date xEdit. Disregard.*The MCM addon has now been updated for the new version.
