    Sticky
    STATUS REPORT:
Jan 15, 2019: Re-wrote the whole dang thing to use/modify fewer vanilla assets for maximum compatibility. Will likely upload it as 0.4.1 in the next couple of days. Needs some more testing and a couple more features added back in before it's ready for proper release. It likely won't be save-compatible since I stop modifying some vanilla quests that the old version relied upon. BUT it'll be better organized and more compatible with things and I won't have to re-write it again so it's for the best.

Jan 12, 2019: Going to spend some time cleaning and optimizing what is already done before moving on to making 0.5. I want to make sure everything runs exactly the way I want it to before I move on. Also, I'm probably going to actually do something about Cicero's terrible vanilla implementation. I'm expecting anywhere from a couple weeks to a month or so before I have 0.5 ready to go. In the meantime, have fun and let me know if you find any issues I need to prioritize using the bug reports section.

this mod is awesome the idea is similar like mine for rpg game or general for open world game anyway enough about me,so from what i read you making the quest to have time to complete will be cool to add mcm menu to have option to change the time you have to complete quest and maybe other options for user adjusting, one other thing how the failed quest work for example civil war staying neutral and lets say stormcloaks win will whiterun change with new jarl and the other things like in normal completing of the quest?

Some great ideas here. I’m wondering, will you ever consider releasing a modular version of this mod? So let’s say I want it to affect some quests and not others. I have too many experiences accidentally starting quests to know that it might happen, I start a bunch of quests just by clicking the wrong quest, have no time to finish all of them and bam, i fail most of them. Or maybe I don’t want to feel the time crunch with all possible questlines.

Will their be any form of "I should get my arse in gear" notification in the game itself ?

If the idea is that as time flows at a constant rate and the "npc's" are not waiting around anymore, it makes sense that by focusing on some quests you would lose the opportunity to do others. Joining the dark brotherhood could mean their won't be time to do thieves guild. gives choices much more consequence.

Do I need to start a new game? I often have a number of quests all over skyrim stacked up from talking to people as I travel. Would I get "quest failed" because it has already too long since starting those quests?

    or

Another approach is If Skyrim can be adapted into a "road trip" style of linear progression through the story that can be explored as an open world once the story is wrapped up?

It could mean that every quest might need to be adjusted so it can be started and completed one after the other, but if it can...

ooh, Skyrim SE time trial mode that counts and makes a record of how long it takes to do each quest then adds it all up posts it online!

I wasn't really planning any kind of fail timer display on the quest notification itself. That being said, I've been playing a lot of Pathfinder: Kingmaker over the last few days and really like how they implemented time limits. I'll look into whether it's possible to pass variables to the quest description so that the player can be told when it needs to be done by, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

So far as needing to start a new game...I'd recommend it. Part of how the timers are implemented is by modifying the quest stages and attached scripts so an existing save may or may not work correctly depending on where you are in said quests. I've tried to build my code to allow for old saves and use of console commands, but I can't promise anything on an old save.

I think the Missives mod does something like that. Maybe look into it?

Oh God you're really doing it. This is frankly my biggest hangup with open world RPGs, the fact that everyone always just waits for you to do whatever. I really like the concept of having to plan out your day or your week, choosing not to take quests because you literally don't have time for it, etc. One of the reasons I like the persona series.

Godspeed. I've never really had an inclination to make mods or get into the CK, but if it's for something like this, I can see myself learning. It probably must take a lot of grunt work to do. I'm open to help if there's anything I can do to.

Tracking, sounds like a really cool mod. It'd be cool if you could implement something similar to Organic Factions where depending on who wins certain battles they can take control over areas

I'm totally tracking this as one of my greatest gripes with Skyrim is that everything waits for the Dragonborn to get his/her butt on the move.

One quick question... I almost always play a good character and go the "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood" route -- meaning I kill Astrid in the Abandoned Shack. I don't know if you've factored people like me into your timelines.. but would it be difficult to implement if you haven't? I think there's three steps after killing Astrid -- inform the guard... go talk to what's his name in Dragon Bridge, then go to the Sanctuary and wipe out the Brotherhood. It would be awesome if you could. But I understand if it's not feasible.

Well, I'll likely eventually do timing for the sub-quests. Right now, you can completely avoid the dark brotherhood storyline if you don't want to deal with it. I'll likely make them move on to the other sanctuary and thus be safe if you take too long. Don't know yet.

That's actually a good idea too -- the moving to the other sanctuary. Still tracking your mod for now since I also don't really do the thieve's guild either... but I can't wait to see where it goes.

As regards the civil war, there's a mod called Betrayal at Hrothgar that, apparently, adds a custom console command that resolves the civil war for one side or another, without the player taking part. Might be a useful reference or starting point? I'm not sure if either side will recognize you as though you'd participated, though.

I'll take a look at it. The Civil War portion is way down my to-do list so that I can figure out exactly what I'm going to do. Ideally, I do want it to progress without the player, not just fully resolve out of nowhere. Though, admittedly, the code for the civil war intimidates me a bit. It's apparently exceedingly easy to break.

What?! The Civil War isn't just going to wait for you to join a side?? Ulfric won't be talking about what a 'true Nord' Balgruuf is every freaking time you walk into the keep?! That's just CRAZY TALK!

Your list looks great; however, you might want to add a therapist to Solitude once you get about half way through it. The Dovahkiin is going to need some anti-depressants once he realizes the world doesn't revolve around him anymore.

Looking forward to your continued work. Thanks.

This sounds like an incredible and fully immersive mod. Love the idea and I wish you the best of luck in development!

May I make a suggestion? Can you edit the quest journal so that it states when a quest started? As someone who hops in and out of skyrim, its difficult to remember just how long a quest has been going. Having a marker that indicates the in-game day the quest started would help with that.

Hmm...I'll see what I can do. I'm not 100% sure if it's possible to pass variables into the journal entries like that but I'll definitely take a look.

Ive always thought it odd how you can do something a month or more later and they act like you did it the same day.

That's entirely what caused me to make this. I was playing through one day, got to the Aretino residence and said, "Wait...how long has he been sitting here doing this?" That's why he was the first one I fixed.
