This is a slightly tweaked version of T3nd0's Free Hug mod ported to Special Edition.
I've had this in my load order since forever, and the permissions on the original are open, if I understood correctly, so I decided to upload this finally, hopefully it is OK.
I also went through the trouble of creating versions with different relationship rank restrictions.
In addition, there are options to choose whether you want a message box to pop up and allow you to choose between talking to a person and hugging them or not. I recommend having Better MessageBox Controls installed regardless, honestly.
You need to stand very closely to the person you want to hug for the message box to show up, so don't worry, it is not likely to become annoying. If you are not close enough, you will just proceed to the dialogue menu as usual. I'm just gonna leave a link to Better Dialogue Controls here.
Alternatively, you can choose a version of the mod without any message boxes. In that case when you stand closely to someone with a fitting relationship rank with your character and press the activation button, you will automatically start hugging them.
Sometimes an animation won't play, if the actor moved or something, the bonus will still apply.
I don't think I changed anything other than relationship rank and distance conditions, and activation.

When initiating dialogue, you'll be given the option to "Hug" the guy or girl you're talking to. Doing so will give you the "Shared Love" buff that reduces incoming weapon and Destruction spell damage by 5% for three hours. You will also gain small amounts of Speech experience, and when you hug someone the first time, their relationship rank with you will improve.
With version 1.1 comes combat hugging. While fighting someone, hug the target to calm it down for 10 seconds. Only works once per target, and only if the target's weapon is out and your weapons are sheathed. The hug is immediately initiated, without an option window.
Combat hugging can be turned off if you think it breaks immersion; just run the console command
set xFHEnableCombatHugging to 0
You can't hug dead people, you can't hug with weapons or magic drawn, and you can't hug someone you're currently trying to kill.
In testing the acquaintances version hugging actually did work on enemy NPCs somehow, which is weird, but could be fun for some pacifist playthrough, I think. Other relationship ranks version should prevent you from being able to hug an enemy for good.
For more immersive experience and less amicable character I would choose allies version, if you mostly want to hug followers. Or friends, but that will include all farmers you collected crops for... Well, that probably makes sense, since you will get inheritance from them, ahem.
