About this mod

This mod simply notifies you of directional power attacks (forwards, sideways, and backwards). This was made to help understand how these power attacks are executed in Skyrim VR (and yes, they do exist).

Directional power attacks are implemented in Skyrim VR, though they are tricky to use. I have made this mod to notify the player when they successfully execute a directional or standing power attack. I'm hoping that with this mod, the Skyrim VR community can get a good picture of exactly how to execute these, and what is required to do so. I'll try to keep this page updated with all the discoveries people make.

What I've learned so far:
  • The direction, orientation, etc. of your swing does NOT matter. This means that you can execute a forwards power attack on someone positioned to your side (by swinging your arm to  your side).
  • As in non-VR Skyrim, the direction you are MOVING is what determines a directional power attack (this also means that they cannot be performed when using teleportation).
  • You have to HIT a target for a directional power attack to be initiated.

Questions I haven't answered:
  • Does the direction of the joystick alone determine the direction of a power attack, or is it the relative position of the joystick compared to the orientation of your headset? And, if both, how sensitive is this to headset positioning? These are both difficult questions to answer; from my initial tests it seems like the headset orientation matters, but I'm not 100% sure.
  • What VR settings impact a players ability to execute a directional power attack? As mentioned, I know teleportation will break it, but does limiting the player movement speed? Does wand-relative vs HMD-relative movement impact things? (For reference, all my conclusions were made with no limit to direct movement speed, wand-relative movement, and smooth turning).
  • Can you initiate a directional power attack by physically moving? (I don't have enough space to test this one)
  • Can you do directional power attacks with Natural Locomotion enabled?

If you post new discoveries or information, please mention what VR settings you are using, as this will help us get a better picture of how this works.
