The Cathedral Concept
8K Night Skies

The Cathedral Concept is a comprehensive visual overhaul for Skyrim. It is lightweight, consisting mostly of retextures and improved models, so that you can use it as a foundation without having to worry extensively about compatibility. This mod page is for the night skies found in The Cathedral Concept.

The Stars

The stars were designed from scratch using the vanilla star backdrop for color. 4k stars were deemed unnecessary as the texture tiles repeatedly over the sky. I've included a source file in case you wish to edit these directly.

The Galaxies

The galaxies were adapted from this image (Free for personal and commercial use. No attribution required). The 4K and 8K versions were made very differently. The 8K version emphasizes multiple arms of the spiral galaxy, whereas the 4K version predominantly displays a single arm.

There are two 4K versions- one of which is blue like the vanilla galaxy (4K Blue Lore version), the other is transparent and desaturated offering a more realistic night sky (4K Milky Realism version). I prefer the 4K Milky Realism version.

There are three 8K versions- one of which is also blue like the vanilla galaxy (8K Vanilla Blue), another preserves the natural coloring of our milky-way galaxy (8K Natural Fantasy), and the third is subdued and realistic (8K High Realism). I prefer the 8K Vanilla Blue version.

Compatibility

Compatible with all weather mods. Note that Cathedral Weathers and Azurite Weathers include custom versions of this mod.

CATHEDRAL MODDING

There are two primary philosophies when it comes to modding, Parlor and Cathedral, originally coined by the former modder, Wrye.

In the Parlor view, we consider mods as privately owned works of art displayed in a modder's parlor. We invite others to come appreciate our work. We directly receive compliments and endorsements, encouraging us to produce further work.

In the Cathedral Concept, we consider modding a joint effort. We share our work with each other to foster further mod development, to keep the community alive, and to contribute in the construction of mods of monumental scales, akin to Cathedrals. Individually, our contributions may be small and not worth doing for themselves, but by each person contributing something, we construct something larger and more worthwhile than any of us could do on our own.
