Any feedback is welcome here. If you don't like my work, I can respect that as long as you show respect in return. And if you have any suggestions, feel free to post them too.

For those that don't get the book added automatically to their inventory, simply open the console and type: player.additem 1A332 1

I still can't get this mod to work. I have a new game, I installed the mod before completing the mission, I finished the mission, I have the book but when I open it it tells me a message The Oghma Infinitum was unable to keep its end of the bargain. No gold removedThe message keeps appearing over and over again for the rest of the game even though I have discarded the book.

I removed the mod and the messages continue to appear every second. I installed and uninstalled it with Vortex. Is there something I need to manually delete to prevent that message from continuing to appear?

      Hi,

The symptoms you're describing match a corrupted savegame. In this case, nothing could fix it as the problem lies with the savegame itself.

Now, before jumping to conclusion this mod created the corruption, I can assure you it didn't. I'm not trying to defend my mod, I'm just explaining that savegame corruptions happens to pretty much everybody even if they don't use mods at all. It's an engine issue, often related to the Papyrus scripting engine that can at any moment skip lines of codes and produce unexpected information in the savegame.

Autosaves and Quick saves are more susceptible to corruption as they don't stop everything from running while saving, meaning you could easily get just part of the info and the state of the game is not "complete".

Usually, those corruptions are not game breaking, and people will never realize they're there. Sometimes we pick up on it, but it looks like a run of the mill "Bethesda bug"...

Unfortunately, sometimes there are things that breaks totally. It's rare, but it happens... That's why we should always have a few backups because we never know if we're gonna realize it 30 minutes after it happens or 200 hours in..

Something you could try is the "hard save" method:

      • Re-install the mod
      • Load the game
      • In the game, go in the menu and make a save (NOT a quicksave, NOT an autosave, A HARD SAVE)
      • Close the game normally
      • Uninstall the mod
      • Go on the disk and make sure all the files found in the mod archive (the `.fomod` is just some kind of zip) are deleted from your local drive
      • Load the game again (make sure to use the HARD save you took, not a quicksave or the autosave)
      • Make a 2nd hard save from the menu
      • Close the game normally
      • You might want to reboot for making sure everything has been cleared
      • Your 2nd hard save might be fine enough to continue without the messages
This method can be applied to all mods, actually this was Bethesda's official way to uninstall mods that nobody is actually really doing... But it doesn't work 100% of the time either, it's kind of a lottery as with many things in Bethesda games...

Unfortunately, there are things out of your and my control at play. While Vortex is a wonderful technology, if I'm not mistaken it's using symlinks and sometimes the files are still registered somehow while not being shown "on disk". Sometimes Vortex doesn't remove all the files from the mod, just some of them and that's why I suggest you check for yourself at step 6

As an anecdote, I had a few weird experiences with Oblivion and Skyrim back in the days.

At launch, Oblivion was awesome. After playing for 4 months straight, I stopped being able to load any of my savegames. I mean, I had like 50 backups, from the very first opportunity to save in the game and then every 2 to 3 hours thereafter. So it's not like I didn't have enough savegames to test.

I contacted Bethesda and they tried to figure out the problem with my savegames. They weren't able to load my savegames either, even with all their debug tools. I reinstalled Windows 4 times, nothing else, with or without windows updates installed and just Oblivion. Nothing ever worked... I just couldn't play my savegames and any new savegames were instantly corrupted, the game would just crash to desktop without loading.

At some point they suggested I download a starting savegame from the Nexus to see if it worked. And it worked like a charm... There was obviously something that was interfering with their code, but it remains a mystery to everybody involved to this day. Any savegame not created by me worked just fine, I never any other trouble with Oblivion beside that one.

As for Skyrim, before I made this mod I sometimes used the console command to train a skill (there are more than 1 command to do this). It worked perfectly fine, but one day it stopped working for Restoration. Any other skill would work just fine, but Restoration refused to work. I re-installed Windows with nothing else but Skyrim (no mod) and still didn't work. Repeated 2 more times just to make sure I didn't screw up... Nope, Restoration didn't want to increase anymore... Tried another savegame not created by me, not working either... Opened another case with Bethesda, they couldn't figure it out either. I built a brand new computer (my old one was only 2 years old) => works like a charm! Go figure...

All this to explain why sometimes authors have some very weird answers to give. We do our best, but Bethesda games have some of the craziest hair pulling bugs that no other games will ever get even remotely close to. At least they're fun games 😅

Nothing works. I have already tried all the methods I have found and everything remains the same. I even tried to reset the entire mission. But it has helped me realize that programs to clean or repair saved games are useless. I'll have to start a new game since the last game I backed up is almost from the beginning of the game.I don't blame your mod, because I have a lot of mods that work miraculously since I have installed and uninstalled many mods in this game, it is normal that everything has been corrupted. It's best to start a new clean game. Thanks for trying to help me.

I knew you were not blaming my mod. It was obvious from the way you wrote your posts.

I had one of those few rare "free" day yesterday and I took the time to address more appropriately the state of Skyrim and why there's this misconception that many mods simply corrupt or break games.

Your example is absolutely the best example to prove what I wrote in my long posts. You had too many mods and you installed a lot of them just to find out some remaining mods were now miraculously working 🤔

There's a very simple explanation and it's directly in line with what I explained in my previous posts: Skyrim scripting engine skips lines of code to avoid slowing down the game too much...

This mind-bending decision from Bethesda is the stupidest decision I've ever seen in a game 🤡

Every single quest in Skyrim is a script. A huge amount of stuff is based on their scripting engine actually so it's very surprising they thought it would be a good idea to skip lines of code to save a few FPS when the game slows too much to their liking.

And the biggest problem about it is the fact it is completely random. This makes it almost impossible to diagnostic and people usually turn around and blame the mod they just installed... followed by countless hours in forum support, local testing, etc.

The line where the problem happens is also random. You can have 1000 mods working just fine, but one day your anti-virus starts a scan at the same time you encounter a combat in-game, then the load goes through the threshold, skip maybe 2 lines of code and boom, your save is corrupted.

And that line might be 1000 mods for some, others will be at 0, 50, 150 or 1500 mods. It's unique to each of us, it varies by the nature of the mods, how fast your computer is and what is your current CPU usage... It's the biggest trolling decision Bethesda could have made┗|`O′|┛

I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way you should always make a few backup savegames in Skyrim. If anything, I sympathize immensely with your plight.

As mentioned in the description => Yes you need to complete the quest and get the book first

This mod only modifies the Oghma Infinium's script, nothing else. This way, we don't mess with the game quests and you get a more stable experience. As such, even if you were to add the book with the console command, you wouldn't be able to use it until the quest is completed.

I love this mod, I only wish you instead of paying the book could got the advance by feeding it with soulgems, it would make it macabre in a perfect sense

Hey, so apparently this is the ONLY sse mod that lets you actually keep the book after you use it. So congrats on that lol.

This mod kinda fixed an issue I was having where the book wouldn't give me any levels (I assume because some of my skills were too high) so this mod is a nice alternative.

Hey TTR, any chance of replacing the gold cost for x number of dragon souls instead?

It could be done, but it wouldn't fit the goal and essence of the mod. And unfortunately, I have about a gazillion other things to do so the chances are practically impossible...

I would love to see this as the result of defying HM and using the college to modify it to remove the curse where it disappears after reading at the cost of slowing the progression.

So far I have tried a couple skills on my level 77 character, and they have worked great. I got a couple that I was only using to level my character up to 100, and added a level on the third so I could get a perk.

That is one case this will be real useful- letting you raise skills you do not want to rely on for a given character so that you can still get the attribute points and perk points. Less need to have a warrior using magic or a mage using heavy armor or a war axe simply to level a skill.

Experience mod. Gain exp from playin the game instead of leveling skills. Pretty sure you can see the possibilities.

For some reason after I completed the quest, the Oghma Infinium that I obtained is not a "Training Station" version. Instead, it  disappeared after I used it. It gave me "Dragon Knowledge" power and +1 to some of my skills.

Found out that its caused by Zim's Immersive Artifacts ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/9138?tab=description ). Right now the only method is manually arranging the load order in MO2 for it to overwrite ZIA. Any chance of an update for this mod so that MO2 and LOOT can detect the overwrite?

Thanks for the heads up about ZIA.

I was under the impression LOOT updates itself with user submissions for load order. Isn't it the case?

In any case, there won't be an update to the mod as it's been released years ago and I unfortunately have no time to pick it up

On the other hand, as with any modding, it the modder's responsibility to make sure to adjust the load order correctly. In this particular case, it's LOOT responsibility to fix this. I'm pretty sure you can submit the load order change directly from the tool. Back in the days, there was a way to tell "this mod needs to load after this one" directly in the tool. It's been way too long ago for me to be precise, but I know it was there.

I hope this clears everything up.

      Have a good day!

I really like this.  Pain in the arse running all around.  But I wonder if you might make an optional, more lore friendly version.  Something where the 5 training session per level restriction is back, but doesn't cost gold?  Or feed 5 dragon souls to make it a bards college reward, (+1 all skills).  I mean, I love it as a quality of life improvement but it doesn't really make sense giving gold to a book.

Unfortunately, I'm not modifying my mods anymore. Mostly for lack of time and other interests.

But I'll keep this idea in mind for a future mod for TES6. Thansk!
