About this mod

Skyrim Special Edition's textures are mostly in 2048x2048 resolution... Which is ridiculous because it's a BIG reason why people struggle to obtain good performance and quality at the same time. This mod changes that.

Optimized Skyrim Special Edition Textures

Description: The mod aims to improve performance and keep good visual quality at the same time by using texture resolutions similar to that of Classic Skyrim. Optimizing the textures, the mod cuts Skyrim Special Edition's textures in half, reducing them to 1024x1024 and 512x512. In game, the changes made to the textures make the game seem as if you're playing Classic Skyrim; with an increase of FPS while maintaining a good quality image.

Performance: Once I enabled the textures and loaded up SSE, I noticed that my FPS increased by 5 - 10 FPS, from 40 --> 50 FPS, in the more FPS hog areas - like the forests. (I use FPS mods and they didn't really do much in those areas until I used this!) I also managed to hit the 60 FPS cap in some areas. Although I can't guarantee it, if you were to use this mod, you could potentially gain 5 - 15 MORE FPS.

My System: Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200M CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz; RAM - 8.00 GB (7.89 usable); System - 64-bit Operating System; Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M.

Tools Used: The tools I used are Bethesda Archive Extractor (BSA and BA2); and Optimizer Textures (Ordenador).

Installation/Uninstallation: I HIGHLY recommend using Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) instead of Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) to install this mod or any other type of mod. Simply click "Download with Manager" and install it through MO2 or NMM. Uninstall it by removing it in MO2 or NMM. For manual installation, extract the "textures" folder into the "Data" folder of your Skyrim Special Edition directory. Remove it by deleting those textures. (That's why I recommend using MO2!) For Version 2.0, move and replace the BSA files in the "Data" folder! Back up your previous BSA files just in case!

Permissions/Credits: Credit goes out to Bethesda for providing the textures and the creators of the tools I used. To those who want to create a translation/other of this mod, you are allowed, but please credit me as the mod author.

Enjoy!
