About this mod

A very small mod which simply switches the player character to use the walk/run/etc animations of the opposite gender.

Permissions and credits
Overview

With this mod installed, your player character will use the animation set for the opposite gender (similar to vanilla NPCs like Lydia).  I created it for personal use because, as far as I can tell, there is not a mod that already does this for SE.

Scope and Details

This mod will not affect any NPCs other than the player.  It is very small and changes exactly one record-- in the Player NPC, 'Opposite Gender Animations' is ticked.

I have packaged it as an ESL (light master) which means that it will not take up a plugin slot and should lose all conflicts to ESP (plugin) mods.  In other words, it should not cause any problems when added to your game.  If there is a conflicting edit to the player record, this mod will simply not take effect rather than messing up what the other mod is doing.

Installation and Uninstallation

This mod contains no quests, scripts, or spell effects, and is literally one record edit.  I have used it over the course of several decently long playthroughs without issue.  Strictly speaking, however, Bethesda does not support uninstalling any mod.  Full disclaimer-- I have not tested the effects of removing this mod, so I really do recommend making a hard save before installing the mod, so you can roll back if you do not like it and encounter problems uninstalling.

Installation, on the other hand, is quite simple.  Either 1) install the archive with your mod manager of choice, or 2) unzip the archive and copy the .esl file to your Data folder.  I have also included the .esp file in a folder (backup_esp/) in case anyone wishes to see exactly what the plugin does or make modifications of their own.  If you don't intend to do this, you can save a couple of KBs by deleting the folder.

Troubleshooting

If your character animations don't change after installing:
  • If you sort your load order with LOOT, be aware that you may have to re-activate the .esl afterwards.
  • Try creating a new save game-- if this new character correctly uses the opposite animations, it may be due to something baked into your save game.  I've tested adding the mod to save games, and it appears to work correctly, but I haven't tried it with a very old save game.
  • There may be a conflicting edit to the Player NPC record.  You can check for this in SSEEdit if you know how; otherwise, post a comment and I'll try to help.

If you install it before starting a new game and have a problem with the cart ride/intro scene-- this bit of the game is notoriously delicate and can be thrown off by any number of things.  Try playing through the intro without it, then adding it once you're out of the cave.

If you're experiencing problems with other mods after installing this one:
  • If the other mod is a .esm or .esl file, it's definitely possible this mod is overwriting an edit to the Player NPC record.  This would likely require a patch-- let me know if this occurs and I'll look into it.
  • For .esp files, I'm not aware of any way that such an issue could arise.  If you start experiencing issues with an .esp mod after installing this one, it's likely that either 1) that mod is dependent on a change to the player record made by an .esm or .esl file above my mod, or 2) my mod is not at fault and the timing is coincidental.  To the best of my knowledge, this file should never overwrite an .esp file.  If you're having such an issue, post a comment and I'll try to help track it down.
