I can't seem to open the BSA Browser: it thinks and just stops.

Are you using version 1.12.4? I fixed a error like this in that version

Sorry for my ignorance. What do people generally use this tool to do? Would this be what I would want to use if I wanted to take an armor from one mod and put it in another? Lately I've been trying to figure out how I would create my own armor compilation mod for personal use, while giving crafting recipes to armors that don't have them, as well as crafting books that I would place in the world/on vendors. Am I in one of the right places, or is there an easier way for me to reach that goal? Again, sorry for my ignorance.

Hmm, I'm not sure what the best way to do that would be. But if you want to for example take the armor model/textures out of one mod's BSA and pack it into another you can use this to extract (though only extract, would have to use something else to pack).

Cathedral asset optimizer would help you re-pack the bsa after an extraction. This tool for me is great bc it saves me from having to unpack and lets me "Browse" what folders/files(textures/meshes/folder location) are in the bsa/ba2 beforehand..

Is it possible to simply get a list of all files in an archive, whether through the GUI or (preferably) command-line execution?

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out.

Is it possible to add a 'Start menu shortcut' to the installer?

So this recently started crashing for me on startup and I have no idea why. :/ Completely uninstalled and reinstalled, no difference. If I run it as admin it doesn't crash, but it just hangs and I have to kill it.

Can you check the "stack traces" folder which should be in the same folder as the executable? Send me one of the latest one in there

This was the only one there, presumably because it was the only time I ran it as admin since reinstalling: https://paste.ee/r/f1m9r/0

That helps, it's something I can fix in next version.

In the meanwhile you can fix it by deleting the config files. If you do Win+R and paste in
      %localappdata%\Alexander_Ellingsen

Delete everything in there and try to run it again after

Should be a fix next version, but haven't been able to test it since I can't reproduce. But I'm like 80-90% sure it won't be a problem anymore

does it support command line swiches like -unpack, -maintain folders, -output folder, -on completion ?
then i could add such shortcut to SendTo folder, have it unpack a bsa right from explorer by its right click menu and exit.

or maybe you could add your own explorer integration right click menu option?

i know about the quick extract feature within the program, but that still requires opening and closing it manually to extract

    thx

Just realized I never added it to the description. There is a bsab.exe you can chose to install with the installer or just grab from portable version. Run "bsab.exe --help" for the options etc for now.

oh its so cool, thank you sir !
pls help me figure out how to compose command line in the shortcut.
im having problem with input file(s) having to be before destination folder
      bsab [OPTIONS] FILE [FILE...] [DESTINATION]
so if i write bsab -e D:\somefolder and then windows appends input file, they are in reverse order.
and it gives me error: Input file not found

Are you inputting a file or folder? Cause it only accepts files

      Should just be:
      bsab.exe -e D:\somefolder\somefile.bsa D:\output

      yes i get that.
thats if you can use command prompt directly.
i was talking about creating a windows explorer shortcut and right-clicking on an input bsa file(s) to get windows to send it(them) to that shortcut, i.e append the input files' names to the command line specified in the shortcut.

anyway, i woke up today and remembered a trick i used once before.
we create shortcut to a wrapper bat file instead, to put the input arguments in the right position before destination.
so create bsab.bat with this line:
"your bsa browser folder\bsab.exe" -e %* "your output folder"
create shortcut to that bat file, set it to run minimized for prettiness, and place it into:
      C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
after that you can just right-click on any bsa(s) in explorer, choose Send to -> bsab.bat - shortcut

Can't believe I didn't notice this brilliant tool earlier, that would've saved me a lot of time and hassle. Thank you for continuously updating and improving this tool. Would it be possible to display how the .dds files are compressed? E.g. after the filename in the top bar "example.dds BC7" or something like that.

this tool sounds amazing and should be a feature in mo2/vortex lol. if i ever get around to using a strictly bsa build then this is the tool i must use. how this slipped by me all these years is beyond me and you keep on improving/updating compatibility for different formats from the looks of things. well done.

    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/20227

any chance to extend the openable files with more formats? bto and btr are also nifs, except used for lod. nifscope can open them. bgsm and bgem, fo4's material files can be opened with material editor.

I've seen both your requests (here and on the FO4 page) and I'll add both of them. This one here is pretty easy, but I need to figure out a good user friendly way to add the option for extracting raw data. If you want I could get a alpha/beta/whatever build up fairly quick for the CLI that have the option?
