It should be noted that I currently haven't had the game, nor the modding tools needed to mod installed for a long time by now. This unfortunately means that I am not able to even update the patches for the children overhauls, nor make new ones at this point in time, and likely never will. So if the patches don't work anymore due to updates to the mods they are patching and/or new children overhauls are made I will not be able to correct this myself.

I am however still checking this site relatively regularly, and as such should anyone create new, or update my current patches I am willing to upload them here, with proper credits given ofcause, just post a comment with it, or PM me the files

If you have any other questions about the mod, or how to make it work, feel free to comment as well and I will try and help as good as I can from memory

If you been using or watching the original oldrim version, you might notice I made a few changes, where I think it would make more sense.

First of all I opted to removed the protected flag (but keeping the essential flag where the game does this per default to protect quests etc.) In my opinion having them protected is just wrong, as that basically allows only you, but no one else to kill them. You can argue all day about the morals of killable children mod, but setting protected while using those mods well that is a whole new level of morality issue if you ask me.

In extension of that I added a killable children mod as a requirement, as I simply couldn't get it to work without getting the child flag removed, and the flag is a pain to work with as it encompasses so many things, some of which makes child act weird if not controlled properly, and thus I don't want to deal with it myself.

Lastly I added a version both with and without the extra children added, simply because I feel like the added children is a bit outside the scope of the mod's idea, and as such feel like people at least should have the option of not having them included (specially if you use a children overhaul they will still be ugly potato head kids)

Will this allow me to give me children weapons and armor so they can run around my home like a little cult of bandit murdering bodyguards?

No, this is not a follower or adoption mod, or anything like this. This mod is about giving children that live around the world, the ability to fight, if it makes sense for where and how they live at their respective places

So I downloaded the main mod, the TKAA patch, and Immersive Children. Then I installed the mods through Nexus.
Now the game is stuck on the main title screen loading the menu options. What can I do to fix this?

Probably a case of the patches not working anymore. Even more so for TKAA one, since that mod seems to have gotten a complete rebuild from scratch since I made those, as far as I can tell from a quick look around.
And as I noted in the top sticky, I don't have neither the game and by extension modding tools installed, and don't have the motivation and/or energy to do that, so that means I can't update them. Should someone go ahead and make new patches for any of the mods I will be more than happy to either link to them, or upload them on this page, with proper credits ofc, whichever such person might prefer.

I can see it's been awhile since this modder has been around.  '21 since any1 has even posted here. I got nowhere in the Forums so far.. I thought I'd try here anyways. I can't get Warriors to work. At first, I had Nethers Follower Framework. That didn't work. Switched over to Amazing Follower Tweaks and it somewhat worked. Sissle did cast heal but her Flames Spell was shooting out of her mouth ( as she quickly ran away). One suggestion was to use SSEEdit. I looked that up to see how. Wasn't sure, so I'll ask here. Pulling up Sissle's page, I saw in the Headers....Skyrim.esm...Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp...Warriors In Training.esp...RS Children.esp. Under Tab AI Data (Aggression), I see Unaggressive under Skyrim.esm: Unaggressive under Unofficial: Aggressive under Warriors;Unaggressive under RS. Am I even looking in the right spot? If so, what and how do I change things? What values need to change here?  Hope some1 can point me in right direction. Thnx

As said in the top pinned post I do still check the site, but it is also still true that I do not have the game and modding tools installed. So there is certainly a distinct possibility that some things might not work anymore, specially in regards to other mods and their compatibility patches.

Firstly I am not sure why you mention various follower frameworks, this is NOT a follower mods, but about making the children of the world able to fight back when attacked by anything (whether it be the PC or something else), at any point, essentially making them work like any other adult NPC. Sure a framework that allow you to recruit any NPC should in theory allow you to recruit and have them work to the same extent, and with the same caveats as recruiting any other random NPC, but that is not the point of this mod.

What is ABSOLUTELY necessary though is some sort of Killable children mod for this mod to work properly. The exact one used doesn't matter, but one is needed. Immersive Children SE, would be my recommendation, assuming that still exists and works the same way, as it is the one, or at least used to be the one, that by far did the most throughout job at it but by extension could be a little more troublesome to setup for some, specially in a heavily modded game

But yes in regards to looking at stuff in SSE. The aggressiveness and one other value I don't remember the name of but should be located right above or below aggressiveness, is the main part of the mod, if I remember right. But those 2 values do get completely overridden by the presence of the IsChild flag though, and this is where a killable children mod comes in, as just removing that flag in itself creates just as many issues as it fixes in this regard, as it is a huge catch all flag, hence why I didn't want to try and fix that and let a killable children mod as requirement take care of that work.

Again this is all from memory, so I might be forgetting things, or remembering things slightly wrong etc, and can't check since I don't have the game, and thus not the modding tools either (modding tools can't work without having the game installed), and it is quite an extensive endavour to install both and get it setup, and ofc it does mean that there is a chance it just also doesn't work at all. Should someone make new working patches (both to the mod itself, or the compatibility patches), I would gladly upload and/or link to them though

Thnx Gummiel for at least stopping by and replying. I did/do have Killable Children installed. Still a no go. But u did do Raeza, correct? She works fine. The Follower Frameworks r needed because I want Runa and Sissel to come with me. Sissel was one mentioned that would cast fire spells. Runa worked fine in Oldrim as an adopted follower. So, I'm puzzled how Raeza works and the other 2 won't??  What makes Raeza different?

I am the one who converted and posted Raeza to SSE yes, though you didn't exactly mention her originally, and the mods are not really related otherwise, so how am I supposed to know you had her too? xD
That said Raeza is built from the ground up as a follower, using whatever follower framework installed in the game (Whether it is the Vanilla or modded one, the only mod required for her is RDO to give her childlike voicelines), and as such are not affected by this mod, as far as the game is concerned, on a technical level she is an "adult", and I believe from a quick look on its mod page, the same would probably be the case for Runa as well, though you seem to indicate Runa not working somehow too, but I don't see you mentioning how she is not working, so would need some more info on that, as in theory that would be the reason both of those 2 should work fine.

So that leave Sissel, there is a bit on unpack here then.
First of all you said you used Killable Children, if you mean truely the mod called "Killable Children SSE", then yeah I think I know what your issue is with the fire spell coming out of her mouth, and one of the reasons why I recommend "Immersive Children SE". One of the other effects beside overriding aggressiveres and that one one I forgot name of beside it, braveness or something I think maybe, and the obvious making them invincible. Is also the adjustments to their height, and I am talking about more than just their physical height, but the way the works on a technical level, you will notice probably, if you ask her to use some kind of workstation she will likely also magically grow to adult size while using it. So basically lets call it her "interaction point" is due to the lack of the IsChild flag, and no measure by Killable Children SSE to counteract that at an adult height, as such she will also shoot her flamespell at adult height (You don't see it for the heal spell as it doesn't shoot any sort of projectile or emitter or anything). If you try and compare it height with any other adult NPC shooting the same spell you should see they are at the same height, it just looks unnatural on Sissel, since her visual height is obviously much lower. I am unsure if this is actually an issue that arise for non follower children NPC's as well or not, mainly since I always used Immersive Children SE myself while converting this mod to SSE, so yeah for that Issue getting Immersive Children SE as complete replacement for Killable Children SSE should fix that I am fairly certain of
The other part is the running away, and that does from what you described in your original seems to stem from lack of compatibility patch, as that is indeed related to the aggressiveness and braveness or whatever that other stat next to it was called, the way load orders works basically the last version of any entry is the one that wins, and thus you notice your your list you have "Aggressive under Warriors;Unaggressive under RS" meaning at the end RS is overriding WiT's changes to Aggressive. There are in theory 2 ways to fix this, though one is the clearly better option
1: Put WiT below RS, this should make her Aggressive as that is now the last entry, BUT it also means she will revert to her Base game potatohead child look, thus clearly not ideal
2: Get a compatibility patch, for best of both world, aggressiveness from WiT, and the pretty look from RS. You can try the compatibility patch I have under the optional files, which then have to be loaded after BOTH WiT and RS, but again due to how old it is, if there been any changes particularly to RS, there is a chance it might not work anymore, in which case you would have to create your own, or get someone else to. I am do not have the motivation to keep updating it as it requires the game and mod tools and all that. To make a patch yourself essentially consists of opening up the 2 mods in the same load order in SSEdit and copy the parts you want to be the working parts from each of the mods (ie, the parts that deals with looks from RS, and the parts that deal with equipment, agressiveness/braveness, and the lack of isChild flag etc from WiT, and make that into a new mod. You can probably find some tutorial around if you are up for it, and the patch I have here uploaded here isn't working anymore
I do want to mention as as an addition in the end that the exact value agresiveness/braveness is set to vary from child to child, if I remember right, so some will stay and fight for longer than others, even with everything working as intended

I think I got around everything in that now?

I feel bad about my persistence, Gummiel. U've been gracious with ur time. Just seems like I'm so close to getting this to work. At the time I posted the last response, I did not have Raeza. I put her in after seeing ur suggestion to just use her if the other options no longer worked. I did put WIT lower than RS in Load Order. Went to get Runa. She did equip her armor and drew her sword when we attacked a Sabertooth. She looked like she was about to attack it but ran away saying go away. I'm just a player (not a modder) but I have tried some modifications to mods in the past. SSEdit is not one of them however. I didn't check on Sissel.  Edit: went and got Sissel, we got attacked by a dragon. She raised her fists but just stood there and didn't fight.

Yeah you NEED a compatibility patch between RS and WiT for everything to work (or any other kid overhauls for that matter), without it:
if you put RS below WiT: you get pretty kids that don't fight back
if you put WiT below RS: you get ugly vanilla potatohead kids, that do fight back.

And likewise as I said it is possible that the compatibility patch I have on here wont work (in fact, just did check and the latest update to RS (albeit also being several years ago), is newer that my compatibility patch, so the chance it wont work is probably rather high I would say, in which case you either have to make one yourself, or get someone else to do it (if you do manage to make a working one, I would be more than happy to either link to it, or just upload it here (with proper credits ofc), for others to use

I did use your compatibility patch. I don't know how to make compat patches. I guess I could try to ask some1. I think at first,  I did have WIT below RS and had pretty faces but no fight. I'll check that again. Also, much appreciated for the replying.  Edit: I did check my load order and WIT is way below RS. Still no fight from Runa. Looks like a compat patch will be needed.

There is certainly a possibility things might not work, even more so in regards to compatibility patches, and I can't really check since I don't have the game, and thus not the modding tools either (modding tools can't work without having the game installed) installed, as said in the first pinned message, and it is quite an extensive endeavor to install both and get it setup
That said, if someone were to make new patches both for the mod itself, or compatibility patches I would gladly upload and/or link to them though. So while I am not really gonna be fully supporting it anytime soon, if ever, I am still around to try and answer basic questions etc.

If at all possible an update to the TKAA patch would greatly appreciated, without the patch (as stated in the description) the kids are all ugly, and with the patch the game loads infinitely (not even allowing me to use the main menu)
I know this mod is near abandoned but I would love it if I could take my little Lucia out into combat after buying her some steel armour.

As I stated in the top sticky, not happening from my end, sadly to do that I would have to both install the entire game, the mods required for this mod itself to work and probably something like LAL as well (as I wouldn't want to go through a 10+ minutes cutscene just to test the damn mod... who on Bethesda ever though that was a good way to start a game...), as well as all the modding tools, which could easily take upwards of an hour to get done. Sadly it is not even possible to load esps for editing in the modding tools without having the entire game installed.
That said if anyone goes ahead and does the fix for me (anyone with just a bit of modding experience should most likely be able to do it in like 5-10 minutes), I will gladly upload it here with proper credits and all ofc

Is it only Braith, or is no kids fighting back at all?

Do you also have a killable children mod? (since it doesn't really matter which specifically, it will not be listed as a requirement when downloading the mod, though I do recommend Immersive Children SE, but any killable children mod works)

That said it is also entirely possible the patches are outdated, but as I outlined in the top sticky I do not have the means to update them as needed anymore, and as such other ppl would have to make new ones if that becomes needed

Hi, I love the idea of this but I'm not entirely sure I understand from the description...it won't allow all kids to fight? I used NFF to recruit Hroar from the Honorhall Orphanage and Zirain from the More Adoptable Children mod, and both of them ran away like little cowards, hiding and yelling to be left alone, even after I equipped one of them with a mace lol. Are kids like that not able to fight at all? Is there any way around it? I'm new to the game so I've only seen a handful of kids but I was hoping the orphanage and More Adoptable Children kids would be able to go into battle with me. Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong or if that's just a limitation of the game? If so, is there a full list somewhere of which kids CAN fight? Thanks so much!

It is indeed not all kids that will fight back, however I don't remember the specifics. It is a very long time since I have worked on this, or even played the game at all, so also don't have neither the game not the tools needed to go check installed lately. There are a few examples listed in the description though at least, so you could try and check one of those to verify if the mod is working correctly for you(also if I remember right the 2 kids in Riverwood should be able to fight, pretty sure those were the ones I used to test it when converting the mod to SSE). I don't think a full list was ever compiled, though if you know your way around SSEdit you should be able to find out by opening the esp with that.
Any children added by other mods will not be changed by this mod, and thus would be up to either the original author making the child able to fight, or a patch to that mod to make it happen, as these changes have to be done on a per actor(ie. character/NPC) basis, as such to the only way around would be to manually make similar changes to the other kids as well through SSEdit/CK

However due to how children is initially implemented by Bethesda, this mod will only work if you have some sort of killable children mod installed, I suggest "Immersive children SE"(link to that one is in the description too), as that imo have by far the best implementation, but any killable children mod will work. Also any general children overhaul mod might mess things up too, including if they been updated since I posted a patch for them, as I said haven't even played the game in a long time, and sadly any work on modding require the game itself is actually installed to properly be able to read and edit the files, so it is not something I am interested in doing at this point, should anyone create new or update my current patches I am willing to upload them here with proper credits ofc

Hi, thanks so much for the detailed response. I do have Immersive Children installed, which I thought was supposed to remove the "child" flag from the entire child race so that it would affect them all. Would I be able to go into SSEEdit and adjust children added by other mods to be able to fight? Or adjust the vanilla kids who aren't affected by this mod to be able to fight? I know you don't have it installed anymore and are going by memory, but do you happen to remember exactly what setting I need to change (or rather where to find the setting) to make kids fight?

The main thing is confidence and bravery(which the child flag among a bunch of other things overrides, but they are also separate stats that affect NPC behavior), I don't remember if they need to be high or low though. Another issue as well I believe is that the stats of children tend to be low as well, and ofc none of them have any weapons or anything like that

Hi, thanks, I actually just went into the RS children esp in SSEEdit and tried changing Hroar's aggression, etc. and gave him a stalhrim sword, and the second we encountered bandits, he whipped that blade out and singlehandedly hacked them to pieces. So yay, I'll adjust the other children in the same way.

Would you mind going into more detail on how you fixed this? I am also having the same issue. I have RS Children and this mod, but I made sure to use the compatibility patch between the two. I also am using Immersive Children as required for this mod to work. And I am using Multiple Followers Framework to recruit children into being followers.

My issues is that they all run away despite having weapons and being equipped with armor. They pull out their weapons, but then flee from battle. They get caught in a loop by being a follower, but also fleeing from battle. So I was wondering if something was misfiring with the Children of Skyrim - Warriors in Training mod, or I have a wrong load order, or if there are compatibility problems.

I don't have any mod-added children in my party -- all base-games ones. So if you have a methodology for remedying this and could go into more detail, I would appreciate it very much.

@AdamDarko Assuming you have no other issues like load order, conflicts, or updates to RS that mess up my latest version of my patch, it should be relatively simple, if you know just the basics of how to use SSEdit (if you don't well look it up, not going to create a step by step on that here, not to mention I can't check I would write it right, since there is no way for me to double check the steps as you need to have the game installed to open the mod files with it).

But once you have the "Children of Skyrim- Warriors in Training.esp" opened in SSEdit (should be no need to touch the RS patch as those I am pretty sure didn't need to touch those, so doing it in the main (or alternativly making your own separate patch would be a better option, in case you ever decide to change to another child overhaul mod). In there then look for the Aggression and Confidence values and those would be the ones to edit Confidence should be high (goes from 0-4) according to this https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Console_Commands_(Skyrim)/ActorValues not sure on aggression, for best chances they will engage.
These values can also be manipulated in-game with the "Forceav" console command, or just have the value shown with "GetAV" and "GetAVInfo" though I think they are more temporary there, but could be a decent way to test and experiment with it https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Console_Commands_(Skyrim)#Targeted_commands

This mod really is not meant in the first place to allow kids to become followers, thought with those follower frameworks that forces NPCs into being followers should in theory make it possible, I never really tested that aspect myself when I converted it, but rather to just give the world a bit more realistic feel for the setting it is in, of not just having the kids flee from everything.

Alternatively, if you can't get it to work, you can try get some actual kid follower mods, as those are as far as the game is concerned not technically kids, and as such is not affected by all this BS that Bethesda did with kids. One example being https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/14954 which is another mod I converted myself from Oldrim over to SSE.

Thank you very much for your help. SetAv let's me adjust values, but ForceAv says it can't adjust values via console command or script. But when I use "getavinfo" on my NPCs, it states that their Confidence is already at 3 or 4, and Aggression is at 1 or 2. Looking at the wiki, it looks like these values should make them enter into combat. The Immersive Children mod seems to be functioning right as hostile NPCs do see them as targets and they can die.

Yet they just simply won't fight back. They pull out their weapons, but then scream and turn and flee as they're being attacked.

The Warriors in Training mod also looks like it's working correctly. When I look at the character's values in SSEdit, they are coming up as intended.
I guess further down on the load order there is something that is reverting the values back?

Two of the other mods I am using that I have previously had issues with children mods are Holds the City Overhaul and Open Cities. Do you happen to know if these conflict with your mod?

Your time is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Which kids are you trying to use as followers? Gummiel was kind enough to explain to me a little while back that not all kids are set to stand and fight, so some will and some will run and hide as they would in vanilla. That's why I ultimately just made all of my own edits in the Realistic RS Children esp plus the esps of various mods that add kids, to just turn all of the kids into fighting recruitable followers.

I have Frodnar, Samuel, Hroar, Lars, and Aventus in my party. All pull out their weapons when hostilities commence, but then immediately put them away and flee. Sometimes they get caught in a loop of running to me and pulling out their weapon, but then putting it away and fleeing only to run back again and repeat the cycle. Their Aggression is 2 and Confidence is 4 when I used GetAvInfo.

So I'm wondering if I have another mod that is resetting their values. I'm trying adjusting the load order of things I think might be effecting it like an Immersive Citizens mod, or various compatibility patches. Things like this are bound to happen when there's several mods going on. I had some conflicts with Holds the City Overhaul and RS Children in the past, so I'm suspicious and need to see if it's conflicting here too.

Then I can find some YouTube videos on how to use SSEdit as well, because right now I only use it for building the Immersive Children patch. I should note I am using RS Children, but not Realistic RS Children.

If you have some pointers for me, I would definitely appreciate it. Thanks.

As far as I know, none of the Honorhall Orphanage kids can fight with this mod. I don't know about Aventus. That's why I just went into my Realistic RS Children esp and set all of the values myself. I manually changed all of the kids' settings to: Aggressive, Foolhardy, Any Crime, Helps Friends and Allies. Just did that one by one for all of them and they fight alongside me just fine.

Okay, I'll probably end up having to do the same. Now, why did you choose the Realistic RS Children esp file as the one you edited?
Was it because it was your only child mod file, or because it was the last child mod file in your load order?

I have several files like RS Children, Immersive Children, Children of Skyrim, Hold the City Overhaul, Open Cities, Immersive Citizens, plus any associated compatibility patch files and others that all may edit child values... not sure which one (or all of them) I should edit. I assume the last one in the load order is the one that matters as it sets the final values?

Thank you for taking the time to help explain things to me.

      edit:
I did exactly that. I went into SSEdit and manually changes everyone's to Aggressive, Foolhardy, Any Crime, Helps Friends and Allies. I made sure it was all the same for RS Children, Children of Skyrim, the Unofficial Patch, Immersive Children, and any mod I could think of that would alter children, and they're still running away. I am out of ideas. I have no clue what could be causing it anymore. But thank you again for all your help.

Are you making sure to properly patch Immersive children again after any edits you made, if not there is a good chance its changes is not carried through

      Thanks for checking in.

Yes, I made sure all their aggressiveness and confidence values are the same across all relevant mods, and I recompile the ImCh patch at the end with SSEdit. I also tried to reinstall all the mods just to be safe. Same results. It's weird,  when combats starts it's like they pull out their weapons and start to fight... but then run fleeing anyway.

It's like the "IsChild" flag is still taking over despite Immersive Children being installed, and all the aggressiveness and confidence doesn't matter if they're still flagged as kids. But they can be killed and take damage... so I have no clue what's misfiring. I'm not sure what would be conflicting with this.

Easiest solution here is to disable any other mods and just have Immersive Children and RS Children (if that's what you use) with your edits applied to, for example, Hroar. Set Hroar to Aggressive, Foolhardy, Any Crime, Helps Friends and Allies. Then go to the orphanage and get him to follow you (I guess keep whatever follower mod you use enabled as well), put a weapon in his inventory, and go to somewhere like coc whiteriverwatchexterior01 where there are bandits just up the hill, and see what happens. If he doesn't fight with you then you haven't edited it correctly. If he does, then your main load order has a conflict where RSC with your edits is being overwritten, although that seems unlikely since I would assume RSC would need the highest priority in most cases, except if you're using Realistic RSC for their appearances.

      @Gummiel and @teresatiger

Thank you both for being so patient and working with me. Everything is working 100% as needed now. I believe the issue was the Multiple Followers Framework mod I was using. Somehow the way it was recruiting NPCs was erasing a lot of the work other mods were doing (I think?). Yall helped me figure everything out, and now it's working as intended. I appreciate the time you've given me over the past couple days, and letting me troubleshoot on the mod page.

I'm getting an infinite loading screen with the Simple Children patch. The game won't start unless I disable it. Same with the TK Children patch.

Make sure you have the actual latest version of both USSEP and the patches of this mod installed and activated, because that is exactly what the last patches were fixing (due to the update of USSEP).

I grabbed the latest update for the unofficial patch the other day and I should have the latest ones here. I'll check again for them as well as my load order in case my tired brain missed something.
