Important!! Please read this sticky post about the new version!!

AdenYeshua was kind enough to send me an updated version of the mod that hopefully fixes the Black Rectangle/Triangle bug that was prevalent in the original version. The file has been uploaded and is safe to use. A clean save is not necessary for this and it can be updated normally. Please let me know if there are any issues with the file and we can try to assist as best we can. Also, I am in the process of trying to make the Fairies able to be added to the leveled lists of enemies and/or vendors and this would be added later as an optional file and not as a replacement for the original file. This way its an optional file and players can decide what they would like to do. Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding and to AdenYeshua for the hard work and effort to correct the issues with this mod. Many thanks! It is most appreciated. Good luck to everyone.

Important!!!! Please read this sticky post about the Black Rectangle bug before posting a bug report or comment about this!!!

I was made aware about this issue yesterday by a user and tested it myself. I too had similar issues with this bug. However, the only time that it happened and it seems pretty consistent is when any of the Fairies are on the left or right side in 3rd person view when you save, possibly look at your map (which is what happened to me), fast travel, sleep or wait. When the fairy got to either the front or the back of my character, the black rectangle would not appear at all. Any of these things might also happen when you are in 1st person view as well. As this mod was ported over from Oldrim, the only solutions that I can come up with at this time until I or someone else can either suggest or make a fix are in the order of priority:

    1. Make sure to unequip the Fairy before saving, fast travelling, looking at your map, sleeping or waiting. When I unequipped mine, the black rectangle did not appear at all when I did any of the actions that could cause the bug to appear. Also, you may want to try and spam the Map key and this usually solves the problem as well.

    2. Wait for the Fairy to either get in front or behind you and toggle your map on and off and that should make the rectangle go away. At least it did for me. You can always try to wait or sleep for an hour when the fairy gets in front of or behind you. Keep in mind that the rectangle did not appear for me in 1st or 3rd person view when waiting or sleeping. Neither did my friend when I had her test the mod for me also.

    3. Possibly come up with or suggest a fix for this issue as I don't think at this point it is solvable without building this mod again from the ground up. As I stated in the description, when I ran the meshes through the NIFOptimizer, the glowing balls would not appear. This kind of defeats the purpose of the mod to be honest. Adding the optimized file is not really an option for me at this point.

I want everyone to enjoy this mod, I really do but I currently dont have a solid fix for this bug. I would say at this point to go ahead and use the mod as is. If in the future, someone does find a way to fix it, please contact me with the fixed .esp and I will gladly upload it to this page and give that modder 100% credit for their hard work and their contributions to the modding community. It kind of sucks to be honest but I feel that sometimes life is a series of compromises and we have to do what we have to do to enjoy what we love to do which is gaming.

Thank you everyone for your understanding and special thanks to everyone who has downloaded this mod and endorsed it. I highly appreciate it and everyone here in the Nexus Community. You guys are great. Good luck and please do not hesitate to post anything or PM me with questions or comments.

I am curious if the formIDs could be compacted so this could be made a light plugin.

If I get more requests from users or if someone can make it into an .esl then I will add it on to the main file page.

      Yes, @fiskin1, please do this.

As it happens, I did it for myself using this procedure:

      • First of all, you ought to feel comfortable using SSEEdit (i.e., xEdit).
      • Load this mod's plugin, Dwemer Fairies.esp, into xEdit.  You may, if you wish, load only this plugin.
      • In the left pane, select Dwemer Fairies.esp by right-clicking.  The pop-up menu offers a number of choices, select the choice "Compact FormIDs for ESL."
      • You will be presented by a rather intimidating warning message regarding how changing the plugin's FormIDs will affect your save game and plugins that depend upon the one you are about to change.  If this is a first-time installation of this mod just carry-on with the process.  If you already have the mod installed, then read the instructions that follow the present listing.
      • Accept the dialog and proceed with compacting the FormIDs for an ESL plugin.
      • When this action is completed, select the plugins Header from the left-hand pane of xEdit.
      • In the right-hand pane, find the Record Flags attribute and right-click on it and select Edit.
      • Tick the box labeled ESL.
      • Type Ctl-S to save your work and exit xEdit.
      • Be sure the saved plugin is enabled in your environment and enjoy using it in future games.

Now, if you already have been using this mod in a current save, you need to create a clean save before proceeding.  This is how I do a clean save:

      • Disable the release version of the plugin.
      • Start a game and use your latest save.  You should be presented with a menu stating that Dwemer Fairies.esp has been removed.  Carry-on with loading the save.
      • If a Dwemer Fairies is equipped, unequip it and drop it and any other fairies you may have in inventory on the ground.
      • Save your game and exit Skyrim SE.  This is your clean save.
      • Follow the steps listed above to create the ESP-FE (i.e., ESL) plugin.
      • Enable the ESL type plugin.
      • Fire up Skyrim SE and go about the process of replacing any fairies you may have lost performing the clean save.  (Hint:  use the console to find and recover your lost minions.)
As a first-time user of this mod, I encountered no obvious problems using this mod as an ESP-FE (or ESL if you will).  Enjoy.

I will make it into an ESL for you when I get back from vacation.

I will also do the following as a bonus:

      • Pack it into a FOMOD
      • One of the options will be an Light ESP addon that distributes the fairies to dragons
      • Another options will be an Light ESP addon that disables COBJ, as some people requested that from me.

And most fun of all....  I will also give you a patch which turns the fairies from Relics of Hyrule into Dwemer Fairies.
Well all except for the Black fairies... which do not have an equivalent with your mod.

      ?

Is it possible to use SSEdit to change the armor slot this uses? I use Timelost Dwemer, but the Fairy conflicts with the Atronach Cube (only one or the other).

For reasons I can't quite figure out, this mod crashes my game when I kill a dwarven ballista in Kagrumez

EDIT: yeah, it's 100% absolutely this mod without a doubt. Can't figure out why though, the main file doesn't edit level lists and doesn't touch any records that would associate it with the ballista, but it's 100% repeatable, and only disabling this specific mod fixes it.

Your welcome.  I am still amazed at how many people downloaded and endorsed this port.  I had no idea how popular it would become.  If you have time,  please throw a kudos to Onota for the original mod.  She deserves all the credit for this.

Damn, this is almost exactly what I was hoping for when I searched "Fairies".  But them just being glowballs with clockwork gear wings kinda doesn't mesh with that.

If only the ball could be replaced with like a tiny flame atronach or person and have dragonfly and/or butterfly wings instead.  But I guess it'd be hard or impossible to animate a tiny person used like an accessory...  Hm.  Unless maybe it was all an illusion and there was no actual mesh only some kind of particle / purely visual animation of a humanoid figure doing some generic stock movement effects that would just give it some life.

Well,  downloading anyway because I'm on a fairy kick lately.
