I've been trying to get it to work, but all I keep getting is the following error message when I try to run the script: "Error while executing og-transfer-fidelity-unsharpen: Error: substring: end out of bounds: 6"
Any chance you could make a photoshop version of the script? Or at least explain exactly what the script does so photoshop users can replicate it. I've done some similar stuff myself, but always just did everything manually and tend to vary techniques based on the images involved.
I'd love to (try to) make s photoshop version but I unfortunately don't have a license.
When I get a chance I will write up the general algorithm so people can replicate it manually.
I'm curious RedDog, what general technique have you used in the past? This is based on separating the spatial frequencies, swapping, then recombining. Is that the gist of what you've done?
I'll start with playing around with the find edges filter on the hires version, then desaturate and add that to an upsampled lowres version and play around with the blending modes and opacity on the layer. Very crude method in comparison to yours, but it does give decent results in most cases.
I'm not an expert, but nowdays I would start by upsizing the recolour in Topaz Gigapixel (probably using the Compressed setting), copy paste the upszied image onto the detailed higher res image, and change the blending mode to Color in the layers panel. This way you keep all of the luma (black and white details) of the high res. Merge the layers then apply a little edge sharpening (possibly some highpass sharpening and noise addition as well) to make the final image look a bit more detailed.
Photoshop has automation but I don't think this applies to working with 2 images at a time and it definitely doesn't work with the Topaz Gigapixel plugin :(
So this script seems to work like a dream visually, but I'm having some issues when it comes to exporting the texture. Running the script leaves the texture with 2 layers, and exporting it from there only exports one of the layers so I'm left with either the blurred original texture or just the overlay. Merging the layers seems to remove the transparency, which I don't think works well for the texture in question (a troll texture). I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing, or if there's another issue causing this.
The link towards the Fast Fourier Plugin is dead. You can still download the plugin if you use Internet Archive though. https://web.archive.org/web/20180319181123/http://registry.gimp.org/node/19596
Well, not an issue with this mod, but Gimp doesn't let me open DXT5's for whatever reason. It used to but not anymore apparently. Can't use this magic tool on everything anymore :(
Got round to trying this using "Dwarven Weapons for aMidianBorn Book of Silence users" with "Glorious Dwarven Metal" and it worked super well, Thanks a bunch!
Ive tested this out and it looks really good. Great idea. Also, Dreogan's Skyforge Steel Dwemer weapons are another good source to work with for the weapons.
Hi opus! I really want to use this, but I can't seem to get it to work. Do both files only work with a certain version of GIMP? I tried both and couldn't get either to work. Sorry for bothering you, but I appreciate any help you can offer!
I just recently updated to the latest version of Gimp and was able to use the Transfer Fidelity (unblur) script successfully. Any more details about your issue?

If it's any help, I am using Gimp 2.10.24
"Error: vector-ref: out of bounds: 1 "
Edit: I'm using the latest version 2.10.34
