1) 21mb for compressed 2048x2048 normal maps is far from being "optimized" and wont provide any kind of FPS boost. Standard/Optimal would be 5.33mb , and that's for uncompressed normals in 2048x2048. This mod doesn't improve the performance in any way. 2) Judging from the images posted and a few i tested in game, the bumping/noise doesn't match with the objects cause the normals are created from the diffuse and not baked from high poly. The extra bump you are looking for requires baked normals to match the objects, no other way to do it really. 3) The title would make some one think there is something ... 3D here. There isn't.
The roads bumping works pretty fine though, tested in game.
Also you using the "Skyrim 3D" for your series and its not polite to use titles that other people are using for their work. Its also misleading for the gamers.
He (or she) can use any name for his mod.If is not 3D Trees then this is none of your business.Go and deal with your mods dont throw garbage to another modders.
Sure he can use any name he wants but mathy's got a point. He has a mod called "Skyrim 3D trees" and this guy here has "Skyrim 3D landscapes". You can't tell me you don't see the similarity. I thought this was mathy's spin-off project or something at first. And tbh was kind of disappointed that it wasn't really landscapes remade in 3D, just some texture edit.
Still cool to see modders mod, I just hope there wouldn't be unnecessary conflicts over things like these. I'll give the mod a shot at some point, might be good even if it's not what the name implies.
Seriously, celox, you're completely wrong here. There's nothing about FPS boost in this mod despite it's title, and the title is why I came here to check the mod.
The mod is fine, it's interesting BUT mathy79 not only points to the misleading naming, but also provides some constructive feedback which may help author improve his mod.
Plus, mathy did one of the best skyrim tree/flora mods out there, and the knows shitload of stuff about modmaking, that's for sure. At least have some respect for this great guy.
So please, if you're angry at someone, don't spill your anger here, go play some skyrim and kill a few bandits y know
I've tested this on a low spec system (radeon hd 5850 w/ 4 core 2.0 ghz processor $45) and while not a dramatic fps boost, it was still around a 5 fps boost with noticeably less stuttering. I guess I didn't really inspect the file size increase but I understand what your saying and if I was able to reduce the file size there would prob be more performance. I will look into doing that sometime in the future after a majestic mountains release. As far as the title goes, I forgot about 3d trees, but I will look into changing the name of the series (I have armors currently in mind for the next in the series among others) because I don't really want to have any issues with you. I greatly appreciate your work with 3D trees and don't want to disrespect or feed off your mod. And also thanks for the constructive criticism.
Props on not reacting like a douche to constructive criticism.
It was mildly confusing - "3d" in the name, but everyone can check if it is by the same mod author, or if there is any mention to those other mods in the description.
Hey thumbs up man, a mature response! World needs more people like you. And about the mod, I too hope to see Majestic Mountains update. Definitely going to keep an eye on this (and try it out on the weekend with noble2k)!

Oh, MM just went live I guess. Going to be interesting to see this in game!
celox5801#You made a big mistake, now mathy79 can block you from being able to download your modes forever on nexus, and mathy79's 3d mods are the best here ....
What a great idea. It makes the vanilla landscape textures look like they actually have some depth. Definitely an option for those who use vanilla textures.
you should do a version for Osmodius Texture pack because almost everybody with a decent PC run's Osmodius and only few people run the vanilla landscapes
a lot of the increase in model detail seems extraneous, like all you do for 90% of the rocks is make them wavier, if anything I would love if you had a rock/stone-less version
I the meantime while I work on a FOMOD heres what you can do. Download the mod manually and delete the mountains folder within the data/textures/landscape folder. Then just install the mod like any other texture mod through nmm or manually.
After testing this a little bit with vanilla textures + ETD / noble 2k + ETD / majestic mountains + ETD I gotta say, it's quite interesting. Personally I prefer MM with original textures but both vanilla and noble got a nice touch with this. Like some mentioned, snow looks a little odd and big mountains suffer from the "wrinkled paper" effect as the depth effect is maybe a little too intense but smaller rocks etc look very nice. Could maybe use some adjustments but endorsed nevertheless. Cool project.
Best look it hawe if you use like me with boos guide and add 3d to them . I will upload images so you can see how it looks in relagame 1080p. OKi you can see now my images. 100% same look in game.Same or beter fps if you go full boos guide(evrything replaced )> yust not all in cities farms 3d still other mods looks beter at this moment and most fo them give 3d look alredy with awesome visual effects.Keep going with enviromental.Hope in future we get cities no fps drops paths like in f4 for example.
don't really like how everything seems to be "dehydrated", pruney look to it. but i do like the idea of increased fps.. so I removed the changes done to snow, rocks, and tundra in effort to give the landscape more life, so far so good.
though i must say, the pursuit of 3d is fine, but don't overdo it; certain aspects of look and details should be left alone. end point is thus, I feel that for this mod, moderation in change is the key to success.
regardless i wish for your success in your endeavor, and thank you for your contribution.
I must admit that I don't really see the point in replacing the original, admittedly nice and well done normal maps with generated ones. The result is quite strange to be honest. Not only do things look a lot less detailed now, especially at close range, but the normal maps are also very inaccurate and don't really match. The best example are the mountains and rocks which look really noisy and mushy now. The ice also has a really weird, bumpy look to it. Not trying to offend you, but I think this really needs some work.
I do think the vanilla needs some work imo although that's not at the top of my priority list right now. Right now i want to finish up most of the texture packs then go back and revise them.
The mountains are probably my favorite part. Not up-close, but far away they look really nice to me. I've noticed that the darker and "dirtier" the texture, the more I prefer it over the original. I removed the snow and ice ones. The mod seems largely preference based with so many split opinions.
