UPDATE 1.01
Added "Lesser" spells to each race that has the respective magic schools listed as "Experienced Skills". So, the Argonian received a Conjuration spell; Breton received Alteration and Illusion spells; High Elf received Alteration and Conjuration spells; Orc received an Illusion spell; Redguard received an Alteration spell; Wood Elf received an Illusion spell. (Original Flames and Healing spells are left untouched, as altering these would affect the "Player" Race.)

THE GIST
Sensibly adjusts each playable race, and their respective vampire race, to feel more distinct from another.

THE GOAL
Distinctive Races invites the player to live in Skyrim’s world by cultivating a unique player-character experience for each playable race. The player ought to approach quests, trading, exploration and encounters differently because of their race’s bents and abilities. Much care was taken to gently reshape each race into distinct forms of themselves, thereby creating new, immersive, and unique experiences—without straying too far from Skyrim’s original intent. Ultimately, “Distinct Races” wants to assist the player in writing their own stories within Skyrim’s stimulating world.

THE DETAILS
Each playable race’s variables (and their enhanced vampire version) have been altered to better accentuate their features. The following variables have been altered:

  • Starting health, magicka, stamina, and carry weight totals
  • Additional starting spells
  • Health, magicka, and stamina regeneration rates
  • Movement speed
  • Weapon Speed
  • Fall damage
  • Passive abilities
  • Once-a-day powers
  • Skill improvement rates
  • Game Settings: maximum armor protection and starting skill levels
Players can expect these changes to be reflected in the Active Effects section within the Magic menu.

In general, this mod emphasizes skill progression rates to influence roleplay and gameplay simultaneously. For example, an Orc may master Heavy Armor with some effort, but Lockpicking will require much more intentionality to perfect. In essence, each race—thereby the player—is no longer equally good at everything.

SUGGESTIONS
This mod is intended to pair with one of the "Distinct Jump Height" mods. Players can choose what race they wish to roleplay and download the respective mod for their race. It should be noted that Breton and High Elf does not have additional jump height mods as these races are intended to be played with the default jump height. These mods can be found in the Optional Files section for this mod.

INSTALLATION
This mod touches each race and their respective vampire race. It alters each of the race powers and abilities. It also changes two game settings, “iAVDSkillStart” and “fMaxArmorRating”. Any mod that alters these objects will conflict with this mod. Distinct Races does not touch any NPC, including the Player, so it should be compatible with most mods. If you think something is not working as intended or another mod is overwriting something, try lowering this mod in your load order. If that does not fix the issue, try disabling this mod, reloading your mods, and then re-enabling this mod and reloading your mods.
