Valdacil's Item Sorting

by Valdacil

Sorting Mindset/Vision (from original VIS)
----------------------
The goal is to make finding specific items (especially frequently used items) easier by renaming them so they group together.  All other sorting mods I've seen for Skyrim rename some items so they group together, but those are still mixed in together.  For instance, Hide: and Pelt:, but there are still a bunch of other items in between. Or rearranging food items so they group with similar food items, but when looking at the All tab of inventory or container, those items are mixed in amongst other items.

So with VIS, I went ahead and just went full tags like my Fallout 4 sorting mod.  Using different bracketing methods this has resulted in most frequently used/looted items being near the top and like items grouped together.

By leveraging SkyPatcher, a lot of the need for compatibility patches is eliminated.  One only needs an .ini file for any mod which adds new items, spells, or magic effects.  These .ini files merely edit the FULL (Name) field at runtime which means you don't need override .esp/.esl files to get your inventory sorted.  For more details regarding the format of the .ini files for SkyPatcher, see the Articles tab.

ESPFE
----------------------
In addition to the SkyPatcher .ini files, there is a small ESPFE which takes care of the following records which aren't supported by SkyPatcher:
Spoiler:
Show

Game Settings
  • sCreatedPotionNamePrefix -- Replaces 'Potion of ' with '(Potion) ' so alchemy created potions are properly tagged
  • sCreatedPoisonNamePrefix -- Replaces 'Poison of ' with '(Poison) ' so alchemy created poisons are properly tagged
Light
  • Torch01 -- The 'Torch' inventory item is in Light (which isn't supported by SkyPatcher), not Misc.  Renamed to '(( Light )) Torch' to sort at the top with Septims and Lockpicks so it's easily found
Message -- Some items (often quest targets or quest rewards) are generated by quest scripts and use a Message record to generate their name:
  • Aela's Shield
  • Jarl Favor Reward (both Axe and Sword)
  • Azra's Staff
  • Aetherium Shard
  • Endon's Silver Mold
  • Farengar's Frost Salts
  • Finn's Lute
  • Fresh Meat (part of Clavicus Vile's daedric quest)
  • Pantea's Flute
  • Rjorn's Drum
  • Stone of Barenziah
  • Vilkas' Sword

Bonus Optional: Reduced Weight
----------------------
Spoiler:
Show

There is an optional download with SkyPatcher .ini files to reduce the weight to 0.01 for the following item categories:
  • Raw Food
  • Alchemy Ingredients
  • Scrolls
  • Crafting Items (Pelts, Leather, Ore, Ingots, etc)
  • Fossils (from Legacy of the Dragonborn)
  • Relics (from Legacy of the Dragonborn)

Requires
----------------------
SkyPatcher

Compatibility
----------------------
By using SkyPatcher, a lot of the previous issues with compatibility are mitigated.  Any mods not covered by the .ini files included will need a SkyPatcher .ini created to cover the newly added items.  Please see the Articles tab for instructions on creating an appropriately formatted .ini.  I have also included in Downloads an xEdit script which I used for a lot of the VIS-S .ini generation.  It is not intended to preclude manual tweaking afterward, but accounts for most scenarios.

Pre-built .inis included based on my current load order which consists of Gate to Sovengard plus some mods I added.  There are also some .inis for portions of mods I had at various times; these may or may not be complete or finalized.
.ini Files Included (not exhaustive):

Installation
----------------------
Ensure you have SkyPatcher installed properly first.  Then:

With Vortex/MO2: Download with Manager and activate.  Vortex/MO2 will prompt for options.

Without NMM: Download the file.  Then use your favorite .7z, .zip, .rar program to extract the desired modules from the Data folder in the archive to your Data folder
     ie: C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim special edition\Data.
Then activate the .esp like normal.

Known Issues
----------------------
  • Some of the Thane rewards (like Axe of Whiterun) can randomly generate as either 1H or 2H.  Since I cannot detect and account for that, the tag used may not match the item generated.
  • Items which inherit their name via a scripted result may not be tagged properly.
  • Items which inherit their name via a scripted result and are already present in inventory (meaning they were previously generate) before the mod is loaded may not be renamed.
  • Items tagged as |Quest| that are retained after being used by the quest will retain their |Quest| tag.
  • Alchemy Plus users -- The feature of Alchemy Plus which normalizes created potions/poisons to the nearest in-game equivalent bypasses the standard naming method and thus created potions/poisons won't be tagged.  I recommend turning this feature off.  I believe the untagged potions/poisons will get tagged the next time the game is closed/reloaded and SkyPatcher runs again.
