Posting to show how stupid I am - and to potentially give a heads up to others - I installed this as the dialogue menu system is very clunky - but like most I didn't read the fine print, and now that I have....

This mod didn't fix my issue, and after months (slow) I decided to read that fine print

"Thus the active item is always at the center of the list" - I thought that the mod would make mouse selection actually work, but it actually does the opposite - I NEVER use keyboard activation - if it does this it might be a great idea to stop the mouse click from selecting things that are not under the cursor - as it stands, I move the cursor over what I want and click - and it selects the item in the middle of the menu, not what is under the cursor.

So - is there anything that makes the cursor accurate? Vanilla sure doesn't, this doesn't.

Uhoh. Vanilla's pointer inaccuracy is why I was installing this mod in the first place. This isn't good news at all. Have you found any mods that fix that problem?

      >  I move the cursor over what I want and click - and it selects the item in the middle of the menu, not what is under the cursor.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't run Skyrim in a while, but I'm pretty sure my mod lets you click directly any off-center dialogue items and it selects given item.

Besides I can't believe I would have made it work otherwise since my mod is all about being intuitive.

What the mod fixes is that when people press ENTER often times if the mouse cursor was hovering on top of some dialogue item, it would pick THAT even though the user , pressing ENTER, would expect the item next to the arrow to be selected. On the other hand if you CLICK it selects what you clicked; nothing else. (edit: I doubt Special Edition affected any of this as the SWF / ActionScript code is in its own sort of sandbox, whether it is classic or SSE is irrelevant -- also I don't think the mod can be affected by anything else, althouhg if using those DLL mods who knows maybe in the years since someone made something that hacks the mouse input ... seems really unlikely).

@ecirbaf: It does NOT fix what the above people are talking about. There are two problems: 1. Keyboard controls being linked to mousecontrol. Your mod fixes that part. 2. When starting a dialog with a char, there's a brief delay for the game to accept mouse input (both hover and clicks). Yet the dialog-options already display. The problem is: If you're impatient and immediatelly click the dialog option, the game will NOT pick the dialog-option you clicked on, but instead another one (i think the default one). Why does this happen? Because clicks and position detection are handled seperately, so you can click BEFORE the game even knows what you're clicking!

Anyone can test and reproduce it as follows: Pay close attention to what dialog-option is highlighted, because that's the one the game will actually associate clicks with. Now start a dialog with a char, and instantly start clicking on the dialog option you want, but before you see anything highlighted (the prior mentioned initialization delay). Very often this will result in a different option being choosen, than the one you actually clicked.

This has been a skyrim bug forever, and i'm not aware of any mod that fixes this. No, the "better messagebox controls" mod doesn't fix it either.

      @bofhnexus

Thank you. Well it's a bummer nobody told me about this back then. Or is it happening since SSE? I genuinely never noticed this myself.

IF the dialogue options appear, the SWF code is running, so in theory this could be fixed. Perhaps it is in the middle of a "fade in" animation? And at that point the correct mouse pointer logic is not running so the click equates a keypress. Just a guess.

I'm afraid I don't have Adobe Flash installed anymore; and don't have the time to dig into this myself. Yet the code has always been available on github, the exact version I re-compiled  the SWF with, if anyone wanted to fix it. Unfortunately few people are motivated to scratch a small itch, even when that small itch, itches you ten times a day everyday day... >_>

I'm not sure if this is related to this mod. it is the only mod I have, to my knowledge, that effects the dialogue controls. The problem is, I can talk to the guards, I can target people to pickpocket them, but I can not talk to them. Last I spoke with was Cicero outside that farm house. By the time I got to the the farmhouse I was broken. I've restarted the game, disabled an enabled different mods including yours. Nothing is working. I find nothing on Google.

The main page for this mod says this mod does not use SKSE so your version of SKSE is irrelevant.

Thank you so much for this!  I'm so glad that I stumbled upon this - I've lost track of how many times I unwillingly chose the wrong statement or question, and sometimes these things affect the course of the character's development.  Thanks again!

Just a quick question, I love this mod and the Better Container Controls.
Could something like this be made to improve the inventory UI ?
Would love to be able to navigate the inventory without having to use the mouse.

    Thanks.
