Man, I wish I had an IRL friend who could just come over and help me sort out certain issues I notice in my gameplay. I use to love watching my older brother play games and vice versa growing up. We use to help each other when weird stuff happened. I miss the feeling of a buddy to watch play/watch me play.
Sometimes in combat, when I switch weapons like from a mace to a sword or such, the game crashes. I'm guessing it cant load the animations or handle putting away the weapon so fast while loading the unsheathing animation from the next weapon perhaps. In general, I'm on SimonRim Setup with combat and ui overhauls added on, and some map changes like forests, towns and such. I have The elden ring animations mod, but I've had the issue with other animations in the past as well. It seems to be specific to when I swap weapons mid-combat or while I'm registered as being in combat, even if it's moments after an enemy dies for example.
I would love to learn more about modding and figuring these things out, but alas, I dont know how to find a resource or group that I could learn from. When I look things up, there's too much to tell what reliable to my untrained eye. Is there a forum or something that I'm missing where people share modding knowledge or are modders mostly just people who went to college unlike me?

My best guess without knowing your modlist is that it isn't the animation itself causing your crashes, but rather the mod that uses those animations. Maybe waeapon switcher mod or something, or simply missing/wrong version of the requirements, I don't use mods that modify equip-unequip animations, aside from these: Weapon Styles, Simple Dual Sheath, Dual Wielding Unlocker, and many mods utilizing/modifying BFCO/MCO animations. So maybe this could give you more insight, as I don't encouter the problem of yours.
In my early days of modding Skyrim (around mid-late 2023), as a basic nexus user, I was also confused and eager to understand how MCO works and combat animations in general. I took the hard route and didn't join any forums or Discords because I didn't have lots of spare time to socialize on any online social network service (sns) groups; overwhelmed and too busy. I ended up decompiling the animations from various modders and studying the syntax, which was indeed very challenging at first, but I found it enjoyable. However, I wouldn't recommend that approach, as it can be quite stressful by yourself.
My suggestion is to join a modlist's group chat or Discord. Even though I never use any modlist, there are modlists with great MCO setups, like Apostasy, Nolvus, Eldergleam, and maybe also Lorerim. Where you can copy the list of mods to download, saving you the hassle of figuring out which mods are compatible with each other. Of course you can straight download them but it require premium member of nexusmods to speed-up the process.
completely forgot how to make animations player only. I know that this isn't the place for that, but if you could help me with that id really appreciate it.
Well, looks who's too fast replying to themself 😅 . I'll answer it again anyway for archive purpose. 1. You could either type/enter this in the config.ini { "condition": "AND", "requiredVersion": "1.0.0.0", "Conditions": [ { "condition": "IsActorBase", "requiredVersion": "1.0.0.0", "Actor base": { "pluginName": "Skyrim.esm", "formID": "7" } },
2. Or just open OAR ingame shift+O and then, add conditions > select "IsActorBase" and enter Skyrim.esm and 7 to the boxes.
Okay, I need a lil help if anyone has the know-how or a link to a good tutorial lol but I wanna make this specific to the Crusader mace and sword. I know it can be as simple as an OAR menu tweak or messing with a config file, I just wanna make sure I do it right!
That's require a quick peek with xEdit or Creation Kit, to see the weapon's formID. After you know the number, you can input it with OAR for this moveset (just enter the last 3-5 number of it's formID). Type, "Radiant Knight" to refer this moveset in OAR. Maybe you can check this video or check OAR's page for more info.
Perfect, exactly the video I needed thank you for the help! I had been poking around configs for other MCO movesets and just needed to connect a couple dots, this is great!
Hi. I have a couple of diagnoses: - Are you installing Kittytail's Holy Templar Magic in the middle of a deep playthrough? Because It’s an ESL, it may break a save file if it installed in the mid-game. - Also, try updating to SCAR 2.0 for AE, or this if you're on SE; It’s not just for this moveset; failing to do so could lead to more CTDs with other SCAR animations, which are the main common causes of SCAR-related crashes. - Also recheck SCAR from Nemesis / Pandora after installing the newer SCAR.
Yeah, it's backward compatible. The only downside is that it can't be used with SCAR patchers not from Maxsu/Nexus, which is why I redid the SCAR patch in the previous version. If you're using the SCAR patcher from this page, it should be no issue.
If you've updated into the newer SCAR 2.0, check Black's animation which utilizing that. One of the feature is; Enemy also can detect and adapt to animations from the sides and back.
Hey, what is the priority number for Radiant Vanguard, Sassy Vampire and Xianghua? I can't find where their numbers are so I can set their priority higher. Edit: Nevermind, found them in the json configs. Video I watched was outdated.
- You can open OAR in-game with shift+O and adjust it from there. - Type: Radiant Vanguard / Sassy Vampire / Xianghua. It's all inside the Priority's box. preview:

- Use User Mode to test out the adjusted setting, NOT the author mode, in case you need to rollback/reload without reinstalling the mod. Although, If you confident enough, you can use the author mode. - Use the animation logger to see which animation is currently playing.
Check this link by GiraPomba, see the bottom of the comment (not the bottom of the posts). There are 2 simple guides to use OAR's priority; [How to use the Animation Logger:] and [How to check which animation is active:] . More detailed info about OAR, please visit their page.
OMG I figured it out. Watched a video on YT but got confused and was trying to add my own conditions through OAR. I was supposed to go to the conditions that are already there and add a new one that way, so now I have this one for heavy armor and Demara https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/125916 for light armor. Now I can do the same to the others.
Thanks for all your work and for being patient with people's questions.
Glad you figured it out. Once you get the hang of OAR, you can check out the stance mod to use different movesets for each weapon type. No worries, and happy modding.
Yeah I just need to figure out why I can't block with weapons or shields. It only ever does Giant Hunt with my BFCO/Elden Rim setup.
Stances is one I tried but complicated with a controller. Since I don't like OCPA or Separate Power Attack mods. I'll look into it again after I fix my blocking issue though.
Even though BFCO has its own block button. Try use this Dual Wield Parrying SKSE to remap and force the button for block, it supports gamepads too. Also check the posts on their page.
I already had that but it was disabled. Reenabled it and assigned my block key and now my blocking works, so thanks for the suggestion again. Appreciate all the help.
In-game: 1. Shift+O to open OAR. 2. Click on the User Mode, NOT Author. So you can switch back / reload to the default value without reinstalling. 3. Enter this mod's name in the Filter box, "Radiant Vanguard". 4. Open/unroll, "1. Basic Attacks", Conditions, uncheck the options that contain the word 'mace' word on it. 5. Save and you're done.
For more detailed about OAR instructions please visit the mod's page.
Or just replace config.json in the "1. " folder with this. But you will learn less by doing it this way. https://pastebin.com/ApdEpreq
im trying to use this with nolvus mod list and followed the instructions below but none of the animations play except for the power attack flaming sword move. Would i have to change the OAR priority as well?
Yeah, you have OAR's priority problem. Don't worry it's easy to solve with OAR's animation logger, check this guide to see "How to use Animation Logger". And maybe check this video, or other youtube's videos that suit yours.
I'm a little unclear about "I don't know." Nevertheless, the conditions are:
You have the Holy Templar Magic mod and have learned the spells? Yes, you can use the combos.
You have the Holy Templar Magic mod but have not learned the spell? Yes, you can use the combos, and the spell will be auto-cast.
You don't have the Holy Templar Magic mod? Yes, you can use the combos, but no spells will be cast.
As long as you have the requirements: The requirement for the key combos is Keytracer. The requirement for auto-cast spell with animation is Payload Interpreter. The requirement for the spells is Holy Templar Magic.
Yes, it's fine. This animation doesn't have an ESP or any plugins, so it won't enforce the use of Holy Templar Magic or any plugin. The drawbacks are; some of the spells and effects would not be cast/activated.
