Implementation
- Implemented as a light master plugin (ESP file flagged ESL and ESM).
- Runs a self-starting quest which adds an ability to allow the player to grab and move an NPC.
- NPCs with the ActorTypeGhost keyword or the ImmuneParalysis keyword can not be seized.
- Changes game settings and actor values related to grabbing NPCs.
Any NPC who is knocked out, paralyzed, dead, a follower, a child, or is unaware of you can be seized. Any NPC who has the ActorTypeGhost keyword or the ImmuneParalysis keyword can not be seized.
How do I seize an NPC?
First, select the Seize ability from your Powers menu and equip it. Seize can be equipped in either hand, but you can only grab one NPC at a time. Move within activation range of an NPC who can be seized and hold down the cast button to seize them. If you are successful, the NPC will go limp in your grasp.
What can I do once I seize an NPC?
Seized NPCs can be moved by the player at walking speed and either dropped, or thrown to the ground, or thrown off a cliff. The Seize ability consumes two stamina points per second while in use and you will lose grip of the NPC if your player character runs out of stamina, or if the NPC you have seized revives from knockout or paralysis. You can also sneak up behind an unsuspecting NPC and seize them, but you will only have a few seconds to take further action before the NPC breaks your grip and likely retaliates against you. Beware that dropping an NPC who is not your friend or ally will trigger an assault alarm against you.
Why did you change game settings?
It was necessary to set the "fMagicGrabActorThrowForce" game setting to zero, otherwise the grab actor effect will throw the seized NPC into the air when the player releases them. I also changed the "fMagicGrabActorMinDistance" from 120 to 80 so that grabbed NPCs are held closer to the player, which also limits how far you can throw an NPC's body by pivoting and releasing them. Lastly, I set the player's "GrabActorOffset" actor value to zero so that NPCs are held at the player's height instead of above the player's head. The side-effect of these changes is that Vampiric Grip will no longer throw NPCs and grabbed NPCs will be held much closer to the player character. If you prefer the vanilla style, then install the optional patch which uses SKSE to restore these values only when Vampiric Grip is in use. If you don't have or want SKSE or the patch, then just be aware that Vampiric Grip will be slightly nerfed by this mod.
Known Bugs and Limitations
- Vampiric Grip will no longer throw or elevate NPCs above the player. Patch available to fix this.
- A grabbed NPC may disconnect from the player's grasp if they collide with another NPC.
- Grab Actor magic effects (such as Seize and Vampiric Grip) do not work in god mode.
