Please refer to the description page for details. Also, review the thread on the original mod page for issues before posting here. I will answer questions when I am able to. I hope everyone enjoys it.

I have been having success with import/export functionality by installing FISS for SE after this mod and overwriting the files. If anyone else can confirm this please let us know here. I don't want to say this is working properly until I hear back from others.

***PLEASE READ BELOW IF YOU ARE REPORTING A BUG***
If you are going to report a bug please let me know all mods you have installed and their load order for me to properly investigate the issue. It's very hard to duplicate any issues you are having if I don't know your setup.

    ***Notes about Controller Support***
I cannot support controllers as I do not use one. In addition, all of the source code for this mod was lost and LordConti himself had a very hard time with the limited controller support this mod does have. If you are using a controller I would like to recommend that you visit the oldrim page for this mod and browse through the posts as there were many people who had issues with controllers and some of them had resolutions.

    ***Additional Notes***
I am working on redoing this mod from the ground up. It is rather difficult as I do not have any source code to go on, but I am making some progress.
    * The new version will not have controller support...ever. I'm sorry but I do not use a controller and the idea of this mod is to type...that means keyboard.
    * It is nearly impossible to make this an in-game book that you can write to. Please stop asking. There have multiple people...better and more knowledgeable people than me who have tried to come up with ideas of how to implement this and due to Skyrim's engine it is nearly impossible. I can possibly make a utility that once you export a journal you can create your own book and load it into your game as a completed or published journal like any other mod, but that's about the only way to do it. If you export the mod you can open up the CK yourself and make your own mod with your journal very easily. I would encourage you to try it and get some experience making something for yourself.
    * The new version will only have one layout similar to the book layout of this mod.

For everyone who has requests for changes and additions to be made to this mod, please note there will not be any other development involved with this version. The source code was lost long ago and it's too much of a pain to decompile the flash file just to change an image or something like that. I wanted to respond to all of you who have had requests. Someday I will work on the next version, but with the way things are right now I am on a little vacation from gaming in general.

The AE version of the mod is up and I would like others to make sure it works for them. This is a simple update to make it work with the new update. Currently I only have SKSE64 (for AE), FISSES, SkyUI, and Take Notes installed on my game and everything works just like the SE and LE versions of the mod.  If you have any issues please let me know what they are. Everything seemed to work perfectly for me with these mods installed. If you have a mod conflict please let me know which mods it conflicts with and I will try to replicate the issue and fix it if possible.

Thanks to xcal68 for making a quick update on the mod to address the squish problem with the newest version of Skyrim.  You will still need the main file. This only affect those who are running the newest version of Skyrim. If you haven't updated your game you do not need the new file.

Is there a way to add custom images? I'd like to add my own images for the left page so i can sort the chapters visually. Thanks!

I've been using this mod for ages, both LE and SE, but suddenly have a problem. I can write in the journal and that entry will be saved, but as soon as I turn to a new page or chapter, I can no longer access the previous one. Does anyone else have this same issue?

    Noob question.
Is it possible to add in a new chapter for the book?

I just found out about this mod and I installed it including the Squish Fix as my game version is 1.6.1170, but the Journal was still squished when I opened it for the first time. I tried reinstalling the mod without the squish fix and now it works correctly. If anyone has the same problem, try doing that!

Is there a way to make it pause the game again while using Sky Souls?

This is something you would need to ask the author of Sky Souls about. I have never used it, but according to the description of that mod there is an INI file which you can customize to enable or disable it for each menu. May be they would know a way to do what you ant to do.

Hi, for anyone else searching for the answer, the line bMessageBoxMenu in the SkyrimSoulsRE.ini must be set to FALSE for the book menu to be paused

I cant get this working in VR... I can keybind: load, close, toggle chapter, start a new note, etc... but I cant actually type anything in the note. There is a cursor on the page, but when I type on the keyboard nothing shows up. Wondering if anyone has gotten this to work.

Take Notes doesn't close. I'm able to type text perfectly, but when I want to exit the journal, I'm unable to, no matter what keys I press. I'm on 1.5.97 by the way.

How do you turn pages? I've written my first entry and don't know how to get back to it.

Update: Nevermind I just learned to read. The key commands are clearly listed in the MCM.

Awesome Mod. So excited. Thank you.

My book looks like a narrow tasks list, about half the expected width. Dark format likes like standard clipboard size ratio.
Is there a way I can change the width size only?

Apologies. It wasn't until reading more posts after I sent this that "Squish Fix" at first read through didn't register as my problem. It's now fixed.

Hey there. I absolutely love the mod and it is working perfectly, but I am a bit of an idiot.
I exported my journal, so that I can re-import on a cleansave later on. However, I did not export the XML, but only the .txt file. So now, while I still have the text as a .txt file, I cant reimport it. DO you know of any solution to this? Thanks in advance

I'm a little rusty on my XML, but the Oldrim mod had an article of how to export and revise xml and import. I would suggest to write a journal entry and export it as xml. Then follow this article and you should be able to put the xml tags into your txt file and save it as an xml to import it into the game. Here is the article (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/articles/49612)

      I've got you:

      1. From a blank journal, create 1 journal entry and write "REMEMBER THIS TEXT". Then, export the .xml files. This should create 5 xml files named ExportChapter1.xml, chapter2.xml, etc. These correspond to the 5 chapters in your journal (ie journal, bestiary, etc). Chapter 1 is the journal.
      2. Open ExportChapter1.xml and the text file that you exported
      3. In ExportChapter1.xml, you should see the following structure:

      <fiss><Header><Version>1.2</Version><ModName>TakeNotesXML</ModName></Header><Data><NumberOfEntries>1</NumberOfEntries><date1>DATE TEXT (ie Frostfall 17, etc etc)</date1><entry1>REMEMBER THIS TEXT</entry1></Data></fiss>

Lets break this down a bit:

The <NumberOfEntries> tag will control how many pages your journal has. Make sure to change the 1 so that it matches the number of entries in your text document.

<date1>DATE TEXT (ie Frostfall 17, etc etc)</date1> is the date header which is automatically generated when you create a new entry. Feel free to change it if you like. Just replace everything between <date1> and </date1>.

<entry1>REMEMBER THIS TEXT</entry1> This was the text that we entered on the first journal entry. This is the big part. Copy the text from your first journal entry in the text file to replace the "REMEMBER THIS TEXT".

You can copy over as many journal entries as you want. Just copy the following string into your xml file and fill it in as needed: <date#></date#><entry#></entry#>

DONT FORGET: You need to adjust the <NumberOfEntries> value to make sure your new entries appear in the journal properly. At the very end of the document, there should be a </Data></fiss>.

Last note: Line returns and apostrophes have special codes. Annoyingly, I can't type them here because the text interpreter interprets my entries as their associated characters. What I recommend is that you enter a line of text with an apostrophe and a line return in game, then export, so you can see what it looks like in use.

EDIT: I was able to insert an image. I usually expand the XML for easier readability. Just make sure to collapse it back down to a single line when you're done or there will be big jumps in your journal in game. (In other words, the only line breaks in the file should be the special code ones that you enter)
