Many problems with this mod, sadly. When using Alternate Start, it creates a black screen on a new save and does not allow me to do anything and can not see any menus or anything. It also does not even disable the character light, but rather I have found a simpler and much easier solution. It's very simple and to do this all you have to do is find your directory for your Skyrim.ini file where your saves are located and under the [General] section, add the following line "sStartingConsoleCommand=cl off". It will automatically turn of character light as soon as you launch your game.
The solution is fairly simple. Install the modification after leaving the prison cell. Or....... Requires basic xEdit knowledge.
- Run xEdit - Check NoCharacterLightSSE1.2.esp and Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp ONLY - Once xEdit finishes loading plugins click on NoCharacterLightSSE1.2.esp with the right mouse button and select "Add Masters..." - Add as master Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp - Go to NoCharacterLightSSE1.2.esp "Quest" add "Condition" and complete it as in this picture.
Thank you for the best mod ever for SSE! I killed 3 evenings trying to to fight this stupidity. Tested many ENB, which could help with that, but all of them making a different colors in game and breaking original design. Now i can finally rest in peace...
It does not work if the game was started with non-latin keyboard layout. Also sometimes it stuck at black screen until i manually press console key, usually happened when Skyrim cold-started.
Doesn't seem to work anymore. Still have to manually turn them off. Not a huge deal, just that if the mod is now incompatible (for whatever reason), figured it would be worth mentioning.
If using NMM to install it (by button from here, or by drag'n'drop-ping zip to NMM manually) it for some reason didn't copy i.txt with cl off command to DATA folder. So as result plugin doesn't work - Console says batch file not found. At least with latest NMM thats 0.65.2 at the moment of posting this.
It seems that there might be some compatibility issues with the mod "Alternate Start - Live Another Life", in which starting a new games loads to a black screen with audio still playing. I've played around with my load order, but the only thing that allows "Alternate Start" to load is disabling this mod. Anyways awesome mod, I've been waiting for this exact mod ever since I noticed the fallout 4 style character lighting.
I don't use it personally so I'm not sure if it's just papyrus getting overloaded or what.
I may test it later, but in the meantime the first version might work better for you. It doesn't use a bat file or hide the console with a black screen.
It actually just makes the character creation black. You can hit buttons to make a character and end up in the prison cell, you just can't see what your doing during the race selection.
I found this issue with ASLAL as well. It's simple to just uncheck the plugin for No Character Light for a bit while making a new character, though. I've encountered no other issues with it.
Thanks for this fix, I was very confused by the glow before.
Edit: Oh btw, if it's any help, sometimes it does work in the ASLAL dungeon at random. I wonder if ASLAL is trying to turn the character light on while your mod is trying to turn it off. Occasionally ASLAL seems to win the argument.
I used *bat i* and the message came up that it worked but it doesn't appear to work on my character. I am using a custom body mod called Dizona body and it has an odd glow in the dark. Maybe the alpha channel needs tweaking or something. Has anybody else noticed this with certain skin textures?

It *was* available in FO4, not SSE.
I don't use alternate start, don't really care about compatibility with it.
If this isn't doing anything, you did something wrong.
"sStartingConsoleCommand=cl off" absolutely does not work .
Can confirm this mod not being compatible with Alternate Start (Black Screen. Even though I am able to start a new game without problems "sometimes")
Can confirm "sStartingConsoleCommand=cl off" not doing anything.
And I can say the solution to this problem is as simple as writing "cl on" before starting a new game with Alternate Start.
This should be a sticky or mentioned on the description page, seeing as how popular Alternate Start is...

Ude Autorun Console Commands
Go ahead and use that other mod. This one is old.
Criminally underrated beautiful mod!

It's like a nightmare!

just did a fresh install, make sure all the files are getting to your data folder and you're running from skse64_loader.exe
Definitely running the right SKSE, otherwise nothing else would work (such as SkyUI and a few other mods that use it).

If I have some time I'll update.
I don't have the time or interest to decompile the game's shaders, or otherwise modify the game engine.
A script causes the bat file to run on game load, every time.
