This may be a dumb and annoying question to some, but I genuinely don't know, and I'd like to be sure before I install the mod or not depending on the answer. Here's the question; Can you change the button actions individually with this mod (remap them), and if so, is it done in an MCM in-game? Or is this mod just a preset(s) of predetermined key lay-out(s) which cannot be changed? Thanks for any informative responses.
As someone who is used to getting stupid questions that drive me crazy in my translation mods, I’d say you don’t need to worry—your question was good and is probably a doubt many others have as well when it comes to how controlmap mods work.
1 - Yes, you can change the buttons to create a more customized layout for you. 2 - There is no MCM. To customize the layout you must install this mod and open the controlmap.txt file that comes with it. There is a tutorial on how to modify the keycodes. It is very easy to use and is in English to make it easier to understand.
Mod works fantastically! The only issue I'm facing is that I cannot add extra slots to the wheeler. I have tried both Y button and N key. Both don't work for some reason.
Mod works perfect for everything, I just cant scroll through the QuickLoot EE menu at all with the dpads. Not sure if this is a bug or there is anyother way to do so.
-Edit I fixed this using QuickLoot IE instead of QuickLoot EE
I have tested it and it works perfectly as BFCO has its own one click power attack feature. I just want to say THANK YOU for this mod. it makes so many other things possible. The LB+directions function is great because it leaves the standalone directions free to use for other things. BLOODY GENIUS mate.
I'm not using wheeler, so I'm having some spare buttons and I'd like to re-configure the controlmap. Unfortunately it didn't seem to save properly, I'm using MO2 and changed the keybind inside the mod through it, but to no effect ingame.
I guess I'll figure that out though, I actually wanted to ask if there is a way to make presets to switch between because the controls get messed up while in racemenu. Other than that, an MCM would be greatly appreciated :)
It’s not enough to simply change the controlmap.ini file and expect it to work in the game. As specified in the fomod, you must reset the controls to their default settings in the game menu for the custom controlmap to take effect.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to fix the Racemenu menu issue with my current knowledge. My recommendation is to use the Auto Input Switch mod and switch to mouse/keyboard during the Racemenu.
Perfect hotkeys i found so far and convenient with wheeler as square. Tho Running is a bit of a hassle holding down left analog, does anyone know how to somehow toggle it with the same key without needing to hold it down at all times and doesnt interfere with dodging? cheers
You don't need to hold the button to sprint, just click once like in many modern games. If you need to hold the button down you may be using the Classic Sprint Redone mod, remove that mod and it should fix the problem.
I am playing on steam deck. Really enjoying this mod. I am wanting to add the back buttons(L4,L5,R4,R5) and make them functional. Is it possible for me to add them to the mod? Would I need special codes for them? If not no worries. I'm certain I can use the steam control function to make up for it
Welp... I'm guessing I gonna go into the unknown and figure it out or break my game lol. Wish me luck! Do the instructions you provided on your previous gamepad mod still work here? I'd like to change up the modifier key from LB to LT
So I thought I'd Granhadd about this since it is an issue with gamepad users and some mods:
Some mods (unfortunately) like to bind their controls to WSAD. This probably bad practice, but what can you do (other than not use them, I guess). Skyrim doesn't natively recognize joystick direction inputs as the same as WSAD (even though they both move the character). Auto input switch SHOULD work in these instances, but I've looked through players' comments on a few (such as Traps NTR or the Dancer mod) whose quicktime hotkey of W doesn't seem to work even if the player is using Auto Input switch.
The solution, really, is for mod authors to stop using WSAD essentially as a hotkey (or let us set our own), but since we can't stop them, what we really need is a way to have either control stick input also trigger WSAD input or for those buttons to somehow be bindable to an unassigned control input.
Any ideas?
((Although, now that I've actually tested it, the traps ntr mod is far, far more sexualized than the mod author let on. I knew it was inherently, but it does go too far. Eh. I just wanted to the novelty of the traps, but that mod may not be worth all the trouble.))
I once came across a mod like this. It’s definitely an annoying issue, but there is a solution.
You can use a program like JoyToKey, which allows you to emulate keyboard input through the gamepad. Simply map the WASD keys to the corresponding four directions of the analog stick, and everything will work as it should.
You can also use Steam's controller settings to map WASD to the analog stick.

I'm running Nolvus.
