I get that a lot of you take issue with this mods concept, thinking it too politically correct, liberal, etc. For those of you who are fine playing vanilla Stormcloaks, good for you! This mod is for the rest of us.
If you can't say something nice, please move on. No one is making you come here or download it.
Just so everyone knows this mod is in update mode! Updating dialogue to be more realistic, and updating a few scripts, etc. Hope to have the update out within the month! I just updated Dark Brotherhood for Good Guys. This mod is next on the list. Imperials for Good Guys is also launching soon!
Imperials lost a war, so they don't have much of a choice and if you are an enemy of the Thalmor you join them. Thalmor are very interested in the Civil War, and are on Ulfric side. In fact a victory from the Stormcloaks is desirable since it will make the North an easy prey. Is very hard to find a reason to join the Stormcloaks in Vanilla if you are interested in the future of the Nords or other human races.
@MFranco People forget that the second great war can happen any second and the only reason the Empire hasn't send a proper legion to end the rebellion is because they're busy defending Cyrodiil for another possible attack.
I'd say the Battle Borns, the Black Briars, a couple of Imperials murdering Angi's parents and getting away with it due to their connections (one story of many I'm sure), the penchant for torture and public executions, allowing the Thalmor to go wherever they want and do whatever they please and the fact that they try to chop your head off when you start the game despite you not being a Stormcloak aren't very hard reasons not to join the Imperials. But hey if you like joining the people who tried to kill you and would gladly try it again if they find you to be a nuisance, be my guest.
Also fact check, the Thalmor are interested in prolonging the civil war with no victors. Stormcloaks winning would just create another Hammerfell that can push them back independently unless they send their entire armada against a single province which they won't.
Alright the chopping of your head was over one overzealous captain the other imperial risks his ranks to save your ass, and he could do little during execution without putting his head on a line, you are going to blame entire Empire over one imperial b&@*$, Stormcloaks are a lot more overzealous and are more judge based on your race profile. But hey if you like to join Stormcloaks who would scorn at you being a non nord please be my guest, a guess man without dignity is a lot better than chopped of head. And just because Hammerfell gone indepedend does not imply stormcloaks winning would be the same great results if they were already lost a lot of numbers. Ulfric is a brainwashed asset by Thalmor.
People who take issue with this mods are fools, politically correct would imply you are forced in being like that, this mod bring A CHOICE, you can choose which is skyrim lacks really badly in that regard. What is the point of a roleplay if you cant even choose
I totally respect anyone wanting this as it's their own choice, just saying that this is like the ultimate worst mod for me. If anything I would want them to be more racist, now you get rid of the main reason to actually join the stormcloaks!
I see you're getting a lot of hate in the comments so I just wanted to give you one to say thank you for making this mod! The decision has always been a difficult one for me and this makes it much easier! Appreciate your work!
The dark elves eat the resources, take up living space, and require literal governments handouts to even function a some what basic every day life. They refuse to pick a side in the war, not even lift a finger, if the storm cloaks fall so do they. The better mod idea would be dark elves joining the storm cloaks for better economics. Joining the side of the Storm Cloaks would literally end the racism.
how can you make a good guy mod for a faction that is already the good guys ? fighting for liberation of their own land from oppresive empire ???? thats like saying the americans are bad guys cuz they rebeled agaist the british empire or that resistance and partizan groups were the bad guys when they were rebeling agaist germans in ww2...
This game was written to have moral gray areas on both sides, but it also does a poor job of giving us any reason to side with the empire, so the Stormcloaks are the closest thing there are to good guys (in my opinion), but that doesn't make them morally perfect either. Clearly Ulfric is an egotistical blowhard who is taking advantage of the situation to grab power, and the Stormcloaks are a bit xenophobic.
Also, I think you're misinterpreting and oversimplifying the situation. This is a holy war, not a war of liberation. The nords were happy to live under the empire before Talos worship was outlawed. In a way it's the Stormcloaks that are upholding imperial values by continuing to worship a deified former emperor.
Regardless of the morality, I think I should have a say. "I'm the dragonborn. Either be nice to the dunmer or I'll challenge you for the crown." Who cares about the long term consequences? Take it up with two different dragons backing me up.
Maybe you don't know anything about the elder scroll series if you think the stormcloaks are that bad. Bro everybody in the elder scrolls series is racist, compared to everyone else the stormcloaks are pretty tame. Like the dark elves in Morrowind were way way worse.
Stormcloaks aren't the "good guys" here but they aren't the bad ones either. It's the Thalmor that are the bad guys and it is in their interest to aid the stormcloaks however way they can to prolong the civil war to further distract and weaken the empire before the second great war.
Who are the "good guys" that Bethesda made for us to argue about?
1. Is it the Imperials who want to execute you for no reason? Arrogant General Tullius and his disdain for Nords? And submission and obedience to the Thalmor? Is doing wrong justified because you lost a war? Some say "but we have to in order to survive". But what happens if you continue down that path of obeying the Thalmor?
2. Or is it the Stormcloaks who will accept any recruit of any race (as a player in vanilla game), but their leader who doesn't help the Dark Elves or Argonians who could either contribute to the cause or at least the betterment of the city? BUT I SEE ELVES in WINDHELM NOT LIVING IN SLUMS. IS ULFRIC USING HIS VOICE TO KEEP DARK ELVES IN SLUMS? Is an independent Skyrim doomed to fall to the Thalmor if the Dragonborn is on their side?
Bethesda likes to leave us with these ethical dilemmas. Neither side feels quite right. Bethesda obviously made it more appealing to join the Imperials in beautiful Solitude, as apposed to the run down city of Windhelm.
GO AHEAD AND ARGUE AND ARGUE, THIS IS WHAT BETHESDA PROGRAMMED YOU TO DO
Haha, agreed. If I do get into the Civil War, I tend to side Stormcloak, because Tullius and his bully boys remind me of all the worst stories about the US army (as someone NOT American)... but lately I tend to ignore it altogether, and just download a mod that lets me skip Season Unending too.
I think the same but I lean towards Stormcloak since the first day I played this game. Stormcloaks are not racists but they have a niche of "fans" that are racists but they are low level citizien. Neither Galmar nor any Stormcloak soldier is racist toward you if you play other races even High elf(!) Other races are not discriminate for example Riften's steward or Dengeir when he was young he chose High Elf to be his steward and these jarls support Ulfric. Solaf also talk about how many different people he met under Stormcloaks banner and his brother is racist but he is not a soldier but simple redneck xd I tried to make pro-imperial build but I coudln't feel right with it... However maybe one day I manage to play against it :D
General Tullius submitting and obeying? Have you ever played the beginning sequence of the game? The first time you see Tullius is him literally saying no to Elenwen and that he's going to execute Ulfric anyways while Elenwen is begging him to not kill Ulfric (to prolong the civil war).

Insane stuff here mate.

I also notice that none of the other holds have a dunmer population. The racist Ulfric's hold is alone in giving space for the refugees...
I still tend to side with the Imps... No, actually I don't. I typically avoid the Civil War altogether 'cuz I find it poorly written crap.
