In my excitement to update last time I forgot to post what was new!
Version 1.4 of Little Lessons adds two Herbane's Bestiary books from my new mod Little Library: for spriggans and chaurus. I'll be looking for more books to touch in that mod as it continues to develop, and also anything in vanilla or in other book mods that any of you suggest.
Per suggestions, the next update will change the perk for Herbane's Bestiary: Hagravens to increase collection of their feathers and claws, but I'll also be adding a file for either Leveled List Object Swapper or SkyPatcher to nerf changes to the hagraven death item list made by CACO. Otherwise, between CACO and this mod it'd get overpowered. Honestly I think CACO's changes go overboard anyway.
I'm hoping to add a perk for the new Little Library book Divines' Handbook for a Happy Marriage, but the marriage stuff is pretty baked in and looks like it might be hard to change.
The Dragonborn's Bestiary already does this for the vanilla books, but I'm going to update Little Library to handle spriggans and the types of chaurus mentioned in the book.
Are you certain another mod isn't modifying this, or that you're using a translation that's incorrect? This is what I see in the text when I look at the effect in xEdit:
Do <10>% more physical damage against ice wraiths. Their bites last <half> as long. Chance to collect an additional tooth.
Yes, I see the one, that you quoted in-game: Their bites last <half> as long. But on the main page here on Nexus it is said: Reduces duration of ice wraith bite by half.
Nothing overwrites and I don't have translations. ^^ One of the descriptions should be changed, I assume.
Are you on the current version of the mod? I don't recall if this was an issue before that maybe I fixed and forgot about, but if you're using an older version that would explain a lot.
Indeed. I'm not sure what perk would make sense with it. Extra damage against draugr seems too simplistic for a perk. Maybe improved sneaking among them?
A 5% more damage TO and 5% less damage FROM dragons, maybe 5% less fire damage on top (since Nords are pretty well protected against frost by default) to reflect the writer's Nord heritage?
You could add a perk to the teachings of Paarthanax after reading 'Alduin is Real'. That way the player can pick something that is good for their playing style. Example: Thu'ums could be boosted to have a passive effect to the player, rather then making them OP and in just one area; such as 'Animal Allegiance' giving the player a resistance against animal born disease (Rockjoint), or 'Aura Whisper' giving a 20% sneak boost for 120 seconds. As the player picks up more Thu'ums they probably need a way to reset and either add or swap the bonus effect. That would probably best be linked to another visit to the big guy on the mountain. There's a lot of scope. Probably need a FOMod for all the options. Sorry the headache ;)
My issue with that is that I have trouble connecting teachings of Paarthurnax with that particular book. Most of the book's content is the writer seeking to correct a common misapprehension that apparently was widely believed where they grew up, even though most priests of the Divines would tell you straight-up that Alduin and Akatosh aren't the same. So any perk derived from the book ought to somehow make use of what it says.
As a note, I don't know when the book was written in-lore, but because Akatosh is a very Imperial god, it makes sense that modern-day Nords understand he isn't the same as Alduin. But way back before Skyrim got Imperialized, Nords would actually be disturbed at the Imperials' reverence of Akatosh, and would essentially respond with "may he (Alduin) stay asleep" when Akatosh was invoked.
Super cool idea, can't wait to see what other books can get perks in the future!
As a note, I reckon getting ingredients from hagravens after reading the beastiary would be cool, and consistent with the others. Excluding it because there is another mod that adds ingredients seems a bit silly. Not everyone will be using both mods, and CACO in particular is an extremely extensive mod to consider for such a small feature. I doubt you'd be stepping on anyone's toes if you included that change, if that's the worry.
I think my favourites are the more niche/situational perks. I think that's the way to go to avoid being over/under powered. Like bonuses against falmer when with 2 allies which comes in handy during specific quests, and sneak bonus against Thalmor which was suggested previously.
I don't use CACO and would be interested. Also I have recently being updating my mod list and have checked a number of wabbajack lists. There are plenty of lists out there that don't have CACO. So having this little gem of a mod added to the game would be great for them too.
Perhaps the easiest way is to add a patch/add-on for the main file for those not using another ingredient mod rather than building it into the main mod. That way you can preserve the first file and have the options for patching without a massive headache of checking every other mod and compatibility. Whatever you choose to do thank you for this great mod.
Actually it occurs to me that SkyPatcher or LLOS would be useful for CACO management. I could add hagraven claws to the death items and remove them from CACO's version of the death item list, thereby making the mod more of a buff for non-CACO users and more of a pre-debuff (which honestly also makes sense) for CACO users.
Bethesda take note! I used to read every book because i needed to learn about the world. But now I have no reason and I don't pick books anymore, run away from them. Same reason I don't read codex anymore in DA franchise because I know enough lore of the world. No drive to read/open/pick book in the world now. If I needed to read I would read a book irl than playing the game
Would be a good way to add some buffs against Thalmor patrols, like 5% less fire/frost/lightning/magic damage from Thalmor patrols (if all four can be applied at once) to make an escape easier, 10% better sneaking against them to hide better, and 5% higher stamina regeneration rate while being in a battle situation with them if codeable. If not, less damage from Thalmor attacks to heighten your changes of escape OR an additional 5% on sneaking.
Another nice bonus source against Altmer in general and Thalmor in particular would be the tetralogy Rising Thread - with all four books together giving a set bonus on top if possible.
Rising Thread, Vol. I could give 5% bonus for reduced damage from daedra and 5-10% sneak bonus against daedra
Rising Thread Vol. II could give 5% boni on speech/intimidation checks against Altmer and 10% against Thalmor, maybe speech/intimidation boni of 5% for Altmer players on top. Not much, but fits the story.
Rising Thread Vol. III could give 5% less damage from Thalmor (if that is too normal a higher chance of more gold and/or an additional gem/ gold or moonstone ingot when looting Thalmor or the Embassy) and 5-10% bonus on sneaking against Thalmor.
Rising Thread Vol. IV could give 5% less weapon damage from Bosmer ( to reflect Valenwood being a more or less willing part of the Third Aldmeri Dominion) and 5% more weapon damage against Thalmor
As a set bonus an additional 5% crit change against Thalmor, 5% better sneak bonus against Thalmor and perhaps a better loot change, after all, you need all 4 books, which could take a while depending on your ingame luck.

Keep the suggestions coming!
Reduces duration of ice wraith bite by half (mod's description)
Their bites last twice as long (in-game passive's description)
I'm not a native speaker but I think mod's description and in-game description contradict each other.

Maybe something to do with fighting dragons, or a tiny version of Akatosh's shrine blessing (which is a Magicka regen buff).
Example:

I'll look into that for the next version.

I think this used to work for me once but now it apparently doesn't.
Do you have to pick the books up and read them from your inventory for this to work?
Edit: Oh I got one to trigger by holding it in my inventory and reading it for like 10 seconds.
The perk should be added instantly once you read the book in your inventory, but the message for it has a delay timer before it appears.
