About this mod
Simple Wearable Lanterns, but with conditions that limit when they emit light. Also includes an SPID file for NPCs.

I've duplicated the Iron, Magic, and Alchemy lanterns as Oil, Magicka, and Sap lanterns. They are craftable. They use the following set of conditions to evaluate when they should light up:
0. Not sneaking AND
1. In dungeon OR
2. Is outside AND
3. In dungeon OR
4. Is night A OR
5. Is night B AND
6. Is interior OR
7. Is night A OR
8. Is night B
This roughly translates to: Are you in a dungeon or Are you outside when it's night time. https://ck.uesp.net/wiki/Category:Conditions
Night is defined as after 8PM and before 6AM.
The mod is bug free for the player character. It will also probably work fine for followers.
CURRENT ISSUES:
- The mod works well for NPCs when they're first loaded. You can stand in front of them at 7:50PM, use the wait menu, and then see their lanterns come to life! You can enter a dungeon, and see all of the bandits with lanterns on!
- However, if you wait more than 24 hours in a location, or leave to visit elsewhere and then revisit them, the lanterns will no longer emit light :(.
Things I have tried:
- Bug Fixes SSE (e.g. for https://ck.uesp.net/wiki/Active_effect_time_imprecision_bug) https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/33261
- Equip Enchantment Fix https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/42839
- Looking at the NPCs with more informative console, they appear to simply lose the ObjectEffect from the lanterns. The magic effect is no
longer active or inactive. The enchantment seems to fail unless the NPC re-equips the lantern. This makes me think it's something that Equip Enchantment Fix should fix, but it does not. Maybe the lanterns get skipped over since they're not normal armor? I'm not sure.
- I also tried rebuilding the mod as a Spell added to all NPCs (e.g. SPID a spell, then have the spell check if the lantern is equipped). I couldn't get the Light magic effect to work this way though, even when clearly active via informative console.
All of this being said: I've still included the SPID files to distribute the automatic lanterns to NPCs. If someone else gets it to work, please share!
