I got tired of running through a city only to have essential and immortal NPCs ruin a good fight, they'll run around or get back up. In Brynjolf's case, he'll keep slicing you like a fish while he takes no damage from your attacks.
As for the children, they are no longer immortal potatoes that yell at you to leave them alone for eternity. They are mortal like everyone else.
========== To install ==========
1.) Place the "Unprotected NPCs.esp" in your 'Skyrim Special Edition/data' folder. 2.) Next, go to your 'Documents/My Games/Skyrim Special Edition' folder and add the following in the Skyrim.ini:
[GamePlay] bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0
=============================== You're all set to play the game ===============================
Once done, most essential/immortal NPCs should be mortal now. I might've missed some, but that's fixable in updates(don't hold me to that). Also, these are the changed records on NPCs:
These edits mean that this mod will conflict with any mods that alter these same records. These tags are meant to prevent NPCs that have them from dying. So, the esp handles it. While all the conventional Essential tagged NPCs can be taken care of with the Skyrim.ini edit above with no further esp meddling.
