About this mod

Tired of getting new armor in your game and feeling like it barely makes a difference? This mod gives you a much-needed boost in protection every time you upgrade your gear, by using SkyPatcher to recalculate the armor ratings of all armors in the game! This also works for any mod added armors. No plugin, maximum compatibility!

What does this mod do?
Normally, when you switch from one tier of armor to another, like from iron to steel, the difference isn't all that noticeable. As the armor increase is very little to make a difference. With this mod, upgrading your armor feels more rewarding.
Additionally, I've tweaked the scaling to better reflect the materials of the armors found in the game. For instance, Hide and Leather Armor are now noticeably less effective than Elven Armor.

One thing to note, the images were taken with the increased version. This means, the armor increases are higher than in the basic version.

Thanks to SkyPatcher, there is no plugin and no conflicts*. It also works with any mod added armors.

*This assumes, that you don't use any other mods, that try to do the same, as this mod. You may end up with high values. This may not be a hard incompatibility, as you may also prefer that style.

The Problem with Skyrim's Armor and Damage Reduction System
The issue with Skyrim's armor and damage reduction system lies in its linear design. In this setup, doubling your armor doesn't equate to doubling your damage reduction. Instead, it only offers a marginal decrease in damage taken. To address this limitation, I've devised a new system aimed at rectifying this imbalance, by recalculation new armor ratings. Under this system, lower-tier armors receive a more significant boost, while higher-tier armors see a moderated increase in additional armor rating. More about the issue can be found here Skyrim:Armor - The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP)

What version to install?
This mod comes with three versions:

Basic Scaling
The Basic Scaling version of this mod is intended for vanilla gameplay. This version provides a good basic armor rating scaling between each tier. If you dont have any mods that tweak armor ratings or scaling, its advised to try this version.

Example for Basic Scaling with Light Armor
Hide Armor >> Leather Armor >> Elven Armor >> Scaled Armor >> Gilded Elven Armor >> Glass Armor
22 >> 29 >> 42 >> 54 >> 65 >> 79

Increased Scaling
Inceased Scaling version is suitable for mods, that in general reduce the armor gained from perks and other sources. Like Ordinator for example.

Example for Increased Scaling with Light Armor
Hide Armor >> Leather Armor >> Elven Armor >> ScaledArmor >> Gilded Elven Armor >> Glass Armor
22 >> 29 >> 44 >> 59 >> 74 >> 94

Decreased Scaling
This version provides less armor rating increase between each tier and is suitable, when you have a lot of other sources that provide armor rating increases. If you end up, too much armor because of other mods you have installed, you can use this version.

Example for Increased Scaling with Light Armor
Hide Armor >> Leather Armor >> Elven Armor >> Scaled Armor >> Gilded Elven Armor >> Glass Armor
22 >> 29 >> 41 >> 52 >> 61 >> 74

When in doubt, choose the Basic version of this mod.
It's also no problem to try each version to find the one, which suits your needs.

If no suitable version is available for you, we can create one! Let me know in the comments or on my Discord!
