About this mod

Make your own bootleg alcohol from other people's alcohol

Changelogs
*This mod made with SSEEdit 4.1.5 for Skyrim SE 1.6.1. I don't know anything about Skyrim AE or other versions of Skyrim. I maintained most of the changes from USSEP.

This mod does 2 things: make alcohol useful for survival and let you turn existing alcohol into more powerful variants.

1. Make Alcohol useful for survival
I applied a few simple formulas to the vanilla alcoholic drinks to give them survival usefulness. I wanted value of the drink to matter, but also recognize that alcohol can be cheap and strong. I did not want drinks to restore hunger anymore, I wanted food and drink to have their own unique applications.

Show
The formulas:
Fortify warmth = Restore stamina
All beverages will fortify an amount of warmth equal to their base Restore Stamina amount.

Warmth duration = Damage Stamina Regeneration duration x 2
I'm treating this effect as being representative of how long you're "under the effect of the alcohol." Damage Stamina Regeneration wears off but the warmth you feel lingers a bit longer.

Restore cold = Gold cost
In CC Survival mode, cold restoration basically only came from fire salt infused items and that wasn't available for drinks. So, you can think of this as the representation of the effort that went into making the beverage. Assuming the product is worth the gold cost, of course. I wouldn't dare suggest that Black-Briar mead wasn't worth the septims. But this also means that a Hot soup, or similar item hint hint, will still restore much more cold than the base level alcohol.

Because these formulas are applied across the board (with one exception) it means that you can apply the same to any other drink mods you have, if you so choose. It also means that there may be some discrepancies in regards to any ingredients or lore implications.

So, with these formulas in mind, there are 2 notable variations.
- Spiced Wine
Evette San is a damn saint and she does her best to take care of her father and she way under charges for her Spiced Wine. You will find Spiced Wine to be a bit better than this formula would normally allow. I highly recommend hiking across Skyrim to get some. Klimmek eat your heart out.
- Argonian Bloodwine
For whatever reason, this drink does not restore stamina (in vanilla). Which means it does not fortify warmth. Since it had other unique effects, I decided to apply the other equations normally and go with that.

2. Turn existing alcohol into more powerful variants
Making alcohol (or even food for that matter) matter in survival reveals a problem: food and drink are used as decorative clutter all across Skyrim. Which means clearing out a cave or a bandit camp can get you supplies for a week. I wanted alcohol to matter, and have it be useful and be worth taking, but I also didn't want to carry around 300 pounds of booze. But why punish the thorough looter? This is my solution: reduction. By combining alcohol and reducing it down in the cookpot, you create more potent variants.

There are 4 new main variants of craftable alcohol:
- Brandy
By reducing wine, or Shein, you get Brandy. A drink that's sure to lift your spirits. And loosen your tongue.
- Fortified Wine
By adding Brandy, or Sujamma, to wine, you get what is known as Fortified Wine. A strong brew to fortify you against those cold Skyrim (or Solstheim) nights.
- Meadshine
By reducing mead you get Meadshine, sometimes referred to as honeyjack or honeyshine. A powerful beverage, sworn to carry your burdens. (My personal favorite).
- Whiskey
By distilling ale, or Matze, you get Whiskey. The strongest of the 4 alcohols listed here, a little liquid courage for your next brawl perhaps.

There is a sub-section to this system. There are 'Spiced' variants for each of these drinks as well. Just as before, they are governed by simple formulas.
Adding fire salts = +100 to Restore Cold (Half of what hot soups do in CC Survival)
Making a spiced variant = +75 gold value (50 for the vanilla cost of Fire Salts + 25 for your time)

I also made 'Spiced' variants of the 3 Solstheim brews that can be used in the making of these drinks. You can make Spiced Sujamma, Spiced Matze, and Spiced Shein by adding fire salts to the base drinks. You can also use these Spiced Solstheim variants in the creation of Spiced Brandy, Spiced Fortified Wine, Spiced Meadshine, and Spiced Whiskey, where appropriate.

Update 1.1: The Fifth Brew
Spoiler:
Show
Red Mountain Cider
Tired of drinking awful tasting potions to fortify his magicka, a crazy alchemist invented this brew to increase his spellcasting capabilities while enjoying a cold beverage. Did he invent something truly wondrous or is this the fever dream of someone who sampled a little too much Dwarven Oil? Some Jazbay in your inventory should reveal this recipe at the cookpot so you can decide for yourself.

1. The brew:
After spending some time with this mod, and some other changes to cooking, I really wanted a way to involve magicka. Food was health, alcohol was stamina, and magicka got a couple of one-offs. So this will be part of adding more to the magic side of non-potion consumables. This is a lighter, crisp, and more refreshing brew, and as such does not affect Warmth. (This of course can be rectified with Fire Salts). It comes in three potencies: Regular, Herbal, Sweet. The Spiced variant is the same strength as Regular, but restores 100 Cold.

2. The formulas:
Value and Restore Magicka
Regular = 20 gold, 30 Restore
Herbal = 30 gold, 40 Restore
Sweet = 40 gold, 50 Restore

Regenerate Magicka Rate
Rate = (Restore/2) + 10
Duration = Restore x 5

Fortify Magicka
Amount = Value/2
Duration = Restore x 5

Update 1.2: Brewing in Bulk
Spoiler:
Show
For this update, I have included bulk crafting recipes for all homogeneous mixtures. Robbing Black-Briar Meadery to make Meadshine has never been easier. They can be made in sets of 3 and 5.
Red Mountain Cider can now be made in a set of 6, with a small discount.
Spiced recipes that call for Fire Salt can now be made 3 at a time, with a small discount.
I've also created a new custom fortify effect for Whiskey. This should work exactly as before, but now with less text.

Some Questions, Comments, Concerns:

You know that this is how none of this works, right?
Don't care curse of Ra.

Compatibility for X, Y, Z?
I'm an amateur modder. I really don't know much about it just yet. If you need something for Campfire, Hunterborn, or CC Survival I could probably figure it out. But those are really the only survival mods I use.

Why are a number of alcoholic drinks not in the formulas?
I didn't want to mess with quest items. And do you really want to go around telling people you used Black-Briar Reserve to make a NEW drink? Shor have mercy on you because Maven Black-Briar wont. Also, I imagine some of those brews go through extensive processes to make them as valuable as they are. This is more roadside-bootleg-crockpot-moonshine brewing. We're probably not going to improve those through our reduction methods. Emberbrand Wine is an exception to the quest items, since Veleth lets you keep it after it's done. Cheers, Captain.

Why the Solstheim drinks?
I tried the Live Another Life mod and started on Solstheim. Did you know there's only one food recipe that uses Ash Yams? Solstheim needed some love. And in researching what little information I could find on these drinks, I think I chose their applications appropriately.

More Fire Salt uses? Bruh.
I know. I highly recommend you find a way to solve this that fits your unique mod situation. The Atronach Forge recipe seems a bit much. When I was on Solstheim for LAL, I added a Scrimshaw recipe to the Hunterborn mod to let me turn Heart Stones into Fire Salts. Rehydrating Ash Spawn ashes is another method to consider implementing. Fire salts are basically the 'elemental essence of fire', or something like that. And there are those who believe Heart Stones came from Red Mountain, a literal volcano, so it seemed acceptable. The Ash Spawn are related to it as well somehow.

What's with the description text?
When I created the Whiskey, that was the first thing I noticed. A lot of text. I don't know if there's a better way to do that.

Hopefully this mod has no errors. Let me know if you find any. Cheers to all players and modders. Have a drink for me. And take one for the road.
