HELP!  I don't want to delete half my mods while I wait for them to get updated (again)
What the hell is this DepotDownloader?  I'll never figure that out...

MoonMods is here to help.

After this happened with the first AE launch, I stopped playing/modding for 2 years.  I'm not about to do this again after just getting started again 2 weeks ago.  Everything was going so smoothly.

This is a guide to help you restore your Skyrim 1.6.640.0 files.

This is not a guarantee of fixing your load order, but it is guaranteed to get you all the files you need to play 1.6.640.0 again.

If you:
  • have not messed with your installation folder too much
  • have not deleted your AE update plugins (all the .esl's starting with cc)
  • do not have many manually installed mods (that can affect your base files)
  • use vortex (or another mod manager capable of safe mod purge)
There is a good chance this can completely restore your load order and get you playing like it was yesterday morning.

I do not know anything about these processes beyond what I am sharing with you here, so I will not be able to offer individual support.

There is a good chance these same steps work with other mod managers, but I only know Vortex now.

What You’ll Want to Have Ready:

  • Vortex (or other capable mod manager)
  • Latest .NET Runtime (5.0 or later) installed - https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/8.0/runtime
  • Depotdownloader 2.5.0 - https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases - Download the .zip and extract it to a folder anywhere.
  • Steam Account user id and password
  • Your install location path
  • The ability to type things into command prompt

Download the PDF in the files tab to get started.
