Because dogs are good boys.
Every time you change the location a small script runs to check if you have a dog follower.
If you have one - it casts or refreshes the buff on you, otherwise it dispels the buff.
Then it shuts itself down.
I have tried to take into account all reasonable definitions of what is a dog, but if you find a mod that adds dog followers and you are not getting the buff when one follows you - inform me and I will try to expand the logic.
