About this image

Left or right and maybe less blue?

I will work on the transitions and tiling, but it's a good start.
How should the transparency be?

Tried blending mode for the meshes, which make them look a lot nicer in niftools. But they dissapeared ingame.

After doing a quick search on: broken up sea ice
I came up with a number of pictures that looked like this which look more like your picture on the left:

Interesting. I would have gone with the pic on the right, but this pic shows me I would be wrong to think it looks more realistic!

The right has a little more depth I feel. The left looks very flat.

I agree. The left one might be Closer to reality, but the Right one Looks better :)

Looked into skyrim. There are icefloes for land and for sea. So it's possible to use both

Both are Bc7 as they need an alpha map for transparency.
I'll make the normal map stronger and will go with the left side style. Some hand painting on the alpha and it will look more natural. And a little less blue.

    Thanks for your opinions.

I like the one on the left. If you are doing glaciers, I would stick with DXT5 or BC7, even for diffuse.

Blends much easier and I found out the hard way that SE does not like DXT1-style landscape textures or normals very much for some reason.

Excited to see what you come up with!
