Old man Jon used to be a blacksmith in the Imperial City. He wasn't the adventurer type, his son was, but after he got murdered by corrupted Imperial guards and Jon took his revenge, he decided to keep his son memory alive by living his dream of going to Skyrim to explore his Nord roots. It was there that Jon discovered he was the Dragonborn and his destiny was to defeat Alduin, the World Eater.

Two years have passed since he crossed the border to Skyrim. The Dragon Crisis has been resolved, both Harkon and Miraak are dead, but Jon couldn't rest yet, as a feeling of nostalgia kept raising inside him: a need to return home. Maybe it was his Dragon Blood, maybe it was the need to visit his son place of rest, whetever the reason was, it was time to return to the Imperial City.
