    The main image is so brilliantly good, it is a masterpiece. It belongs in a museum gallery.

      Ha, thank you! Now that you mention it, strangely the first image does have a kind of painterly mood to the scene... in the same way that the second and third images do not (more overtly "realistic"). Lighting, maybe, or the tinge of purple from the ice.

      Yes, the many colors and tints. Also, the power of suggestions in the image. Visual hints by your framing and composition.The sense of things larger or more, like a larger forest or implied settlement beyond the bridge, or inhabitants of the cottage. The details of the snowbranches, the footprints, the shadows for time of day, the hidden river, the shrouded, indistinct mountain .... More than maybe you even saw when you made it, but who cares: you felt it!
