If the Empire fails... So does the rest of Tamriel. The Heartland is a gate to everywhere. The last things the Nords would want to see is Imperial soldiers wearing the Yellow and Eagle backed by Elven troops when the Imperial soldiers would become Altmer Soldiers... More then eager to return to Skyrim, and have their go.
If the 5th Legion fails it proves the Empire to weak to stand... Without the Nords to save them, the Empire would die.. Is why i believe the Almeri Government outlawed Talos, and made the Empire do the same. Because it would separate the Empire and the Nords. So the next time they attack, they wont have to worry about the Northern armies!
