I would say that if only my character and the potential followers would be using these SMP hairs it shouldn't be that demanding? Looks amazing. Skyrim 2022. :D
Yes, should be fine. I've done some quick tests: I can run 10 people with this hair at 60 fps (and my CPU is from 2014). 20 people, still playable. With 100 people I drop to single-digit fps.
The other hairs I've posted are cheaper, though. With them I still had 20 fps with 100 people. The braids in this one cost a bit.
If i recall i think CBBE (3BA)'s installer has one of the options in its installer where you can pick how far the phyics are rendered via cell draw distance for FPS conservation purposes and it also has AVX version picking for your CPU. So for instance I run an i7 6700 so I would have to choose AVX 2.
Maybe something like choosing how far the physics are rendered by (like 512 = stable fps, 1024 = medium fps loss, etc.) and after a certain point, no physics are enables at all, its the static meshes of this mod. Maybe Base Object Swapper, Keyword Item Distributor, SPID, and Occlusion Culling on the hair mesh can be used?
Faster HDT-SMP has the options you mention, maybe you're thinking of that? I think deciding how and when to run the physics sim has to be done by (Faster) HDT-SMP, there's no way for me to influence that on my end. All I can do is to keep the system as simple and efficient as I can.
I'm not giving physics to everyone, just the player. Pretty much any CPU (which is where the physics happens) can handle that.
Also, this hair isn't as expensive as you might think. As far as I have seen, SMP hairs tend to be very demanding because they're not optimised for gameplay. I've made some sacrifices that you might never notice anyway.

Needing a REALLY strong one.
