About this image

Guess what I'm working on? Yep, it's another skin mod. It was meant to be an update to Lucid Skin, it got a bit out of hand, here we are . . . Modelling it in this screenshot is eeekie's lovely Shehyn.

Ooooo! That looks really interesting! If I can ask, what are the like main design goals? Like what sets it apart?

A good question – at least it certainly must be if it has gotten me thinking so long! At first this comment was me talking about a lot of small details and nitpicks which, whilst a genuine grievance of mine – I've done my best to make this quite polished – is not, I suppose, a compelling argument. Someone who has used a skin texture for years is not likely to change because these nostrils on this one normal map don't match the diffuse. So I'll try to be more general!

Naturally this has inherited some design goals from Lucid – avoid whitewashing, comprehensive coverage, lots of choice in appearance. Lucid's diffuse was . . . rough, though, and its normal maps far too intense. They were made that way because of an issue I often had with skin textures where, at speaking distance, the surface would seem all too plasticky and inhuman. The new specular I've made helps to combat that and given the diffuse options included, every person should be able to find something that suits their game. My last texture failed screenarchery completely because of the afore-mentioned unsubtle normal maps but this one does really well in close-ups, which makes me happy. At the same time, though, it works for gameplay; some of the skins I've tried most perfect for screenarchery often fell short in Skyrim's regular, unflattering lighting. I made this because there is no female skin on the Nexus as well-crafted as Fair Skin Complexion, but Fair Skin Complexion just isn't to my taste due to how different its normal maps make everything look. The skin also avoids cartooniness – realism is a bit of a wishy-washy word because, well, there are billions of real women and all of them have different skin.

So yeah, that's my best effort to explain my goals here. Honestly it'd just be a nice break from Bijin, but whether people would actually switch I don't know.

If it makes you feel better I'll definitely try it out, I still feel kind of unsatisfied with all the female skin textures
