It has almost been one year since I started Mad God Overhaul! I can't thank the community for the support you have given me, and I am truly proud of what we have created together.
As of this writing, I finally broke 1,900 mods active, total number of mods is over 2000 once you include the customizable options. To actually properly remaster a game as old as Skyrim, you really need every single one of these mods. Every single texture, every location, every enemy of the original 2011 game feels dated in 2024. The goal of MGO is to make them as epic as possible, as if Bethesda remastered the game on 2024 hardware.
There is a reason Lorerim 2 and Nolvus 6, the two greatest Skyrim mod lists ever created, are both over 3,500 mods. We will get there someday!
Community Shader Update - A Massive Upgrade to Exterior Visuals, Especially If You Have the Hardware
With Volumetric Lighting, Water SSR, and new tone mapping, this is a massive upgrade to exterior visuals.
Mad God Overhaul 3.0 will ship with three Community Shader profiles.
- The default performance profile will perform better than current Nexus Community Shaders, the CS team spend a lot of time improving performance in the last a few months!
- Quality profile adds terrain parallax, screen space shadows, water SSR and volumetric lighting
Of course, this is customizable with a simple press of the END key and you can decide which feature is most important to you.

Nature of the Wildlands 3 and Freaks Floral Fields - The most incredible tree/grass combo ever created in Skyrim
A huge step forward in foliage and flora, and truly next generation. I have reduced the performance profile grass density to compensate. Those of you with enough hardware to run medium or high grass density will be in for a treat. For VR ENB users, Folkvangr and Origin of Forest, and it still looks good without CS complex grass.
- Grass Density Low - imingrasssize = 100
- Grass Density Medium - imingrasssize = 80
- Grass Density High - imingrasssize = 60

NAT3 - Our new default weather for CS, and 4 ENB presets if you prefer ENB!
I have been in love with NAT3 for a very long time, but it never really worked right for Community Shaders. Thanks to Kenta, we now have a community shader patch for NAT3, and the result is simply breathtaking. For ENB lovers, I will have four NAT3 ENB profiles to choose from: Cabbage, L00 NAT3, Rudy NAT and last but not least, HOSE ENB which makes a return from MGO 1.7 - 1.8 days!
Azurite 3, NAT Classic, Scenery ENB and Rudy Cathedral ENB will continue to be part of the list.

SkyPatcher - Weapon/Armor Distribution AND Major Gameplay Overhaul
Thanks to HOSE we managed to get a VR version of SkyPatcher. This allowed us to update Sentinel to the latest Nexus version! In addition to new weapon and armor, and also add Clemdiddly's clothing mods. SkyPatcher is simply the far more consistent way to distribute items than SPID.
But that is not all! SkyPatcher based gameplay mods will also breath new life into the game! SkyPatcher ensures modded contents benefit from these gameplay overhauls in a consistent way.
- SkyValor - Damage normalization and balance to eliminate sponge enemies added by mods, and fast paced combat, this is a complete revamp to player/enemy health, as well as damage in and out
- SkyTactics - Diversity in NPC combat style and behaviors
- Skypatched Open World Loot - Provides better loot balance and consistent enemy levels
- Skypatched Scarcity - Makes gold actually mean something
- Skypatched Mortal Enemies - Eliminate NPC aim bot's and impose movement limits
Of course, you can disable any of these mods if you don't like it.
And more play testing from the community will be needed to identify ideal settings for each mod.
NPC Spell Variance - Spell Variety AI
Until now, Skyrim NPC's always spam the same spell over and over again, not any more!
With NPC Spell Variance - Spell Variety AI, enemies will cast a variety of spells. The list includes Mysticism, Darenii spell collection and Kittytail spell collection, and their proper patches. Fighting spell casters will never be the same again!
NPC - Choose Between Fantasy vs Realism
Thanks to Community feedback, we added the option to choose between fantasy and realistic NPC.
You can switch mid-save by enable/disable the entire section to see which one you like the best.
Fantasy (Default) - Bijin/Pandorable/Kalilies
Realism - Dlbella, Northbourne and Nithi
I have included 12 fantasy body presets from Scarlett Day and 12 Realism body presets from Viper. OBody will assign to NPC's randomly. By default both body types are enabled for maximum variety. Add/remove, mix and match all you want, no need to re-run Bodyslide.
I have also changed Nordic Face back to Modpocalypse NPC for higher quality assets and more importantly, better coverage of modded contents.
Quest Expansion and Locations
- Environ collection so some locations in the game like Western Tower will actually change over time!
- Jayserpa's collection to expand vanilla quests
- Fuzzbeed and Snozz collections to remaster all dungeons
- Schlitzohr collection for new locations in previously empty spaces
- A few JK interiors, Snazzy interiors I missed previously, Tem's Houses
Notable Small Texture Mods
- FYX mesh collection
- Imperial Castles of Skyrim and Medieval Towers to give forts a make over
- Sothasimp bedding and furniture collection
- Farmhouse Chimney, Water Tower of Skyrim and Woodshed of Skyrim to make the world feel more lived in
Notable Changes/Removals from Previous Versions
- Skyrim 202x - Most of it was already overwritten by newer texture mods from Riton and Tomato, this update I replaced the remaining textures
- Cathedral Armory. Most of it already overwritten by Xavbio's
- DLAA - Community Shader comes with its own DLAA, enable using END key and the Community Shader UI. PureDark version has been moved to ENB section as it is not compatible with new CS
- DLSS - No longer working with Community Shaders 1.0, and also breaks brightness for several ENB's, please use FSR+DLAA as an alternative or just reduce the resolution
Quality of Life
- Updated Nemesis to Pandora for much faster animation generation time
- Updated MO2 to latest version and it should eliminate the rare load order issue changed during gameplay issue

I'm also building a new PC if I can ever get a 9800X3D, all for this mod
So.... is it available or is it a work in progress. On the mod page I see 2.55 but from how the article talks about it it looks like a finished job. When will it be available?
Thanks and GREAT WORK :D
Official release should be next a few days, as soon as Community Shader 1.0 update hits Nexus.
I'm trying to understand if I can get a mod list from the 3.0 so I can check what's inside before dowloading.
You're talking about a CS patch for NAT3 but couldn't find it, has it been published to the Nexus yet ? Would love to make some test.
