Another way to change a followers appearance with various uses and applications. This is not THE way, but A way.
In this example, we will make friend's mom look like Batheile, while keeping everything else intact, including the previous follower master. For mods that are too complex to remove the follower.
First load the mod and the new follower you want, the follower must load before in the load order.
Find the follower you want to copy the looks and copy as overwrite with overwriting in the mod
Select ok.
Find the copy, overwrite, of the new follower in our mod and change the voice to the mods new voice.
Go to the old follower and add template the new follower
Last step, add template flag, use traits.

A disadvantage of this method is that now Batheile will lose her original voice, and you will have two NPCs with the same face.
You can disable a follower, so only the one using the template will have the face. To do that find the cell where the NPC spawns and copy as override again with overwriting from the follower esp to the mod esp.
Then add flag, initially disabled.
