Some people have asked me to detail exactly what choices they can make in this mod and how it outcomes the potential story of the mod. This article will do exactly that, detailing each quest, what consequences came from your previous choices, and what choices can be made in that quest. This will obviously feature heavy spoilers, so I recommend you play through the mod one time on your own using your best judgement, then read through this guide to see what outcomes are possible.
CuC01: Stalking the Depths (Getting the fragment in Dustman's Cairn)
Choices to Make:
- Kill Farkas
- Spare Farkas
CuC01 Post Quest:
Previous Consequences:
- If the player killed Farkas, Nirmir will only comment on how they will fit in with the rest of the Silver Hand, and not even let the player know he intends to cure the Companions.
- Help Nirmir cure (Not available if you killed Farkas earlier)
- Refuse to help Nirmir cure
CuC02a: Hunting a Cure (Finding a Tome for Henlie)
Previous Consequences:
- This quest is only available if you are helping Nirmir cure the Companions.
CuC02b: Mending the Hand (Taking down Gallows Rock)
Previous Consequences:
- If you are helping Nirmir, he will join you in Gallows Rock
- If you are not helping Nirmir, Stolgar will join you in Gallows Rock
- After killing Krev, simply leave
- After killing Krev, double back through Gallows Rock to find and kill Aela
CuC03: Betrayal
Previous Consequences:
- If the player is helping Nirmir, Stolgar will tell you of Nirmir's plans to meet in the Underforge. Upon arriving, you will find him and Sorik staring each other down, with Kodlak's corpse in the background.
- If the player is not helping Nirmir, Sorik will send you to the Underforge to ambush the Companions there.
- If helping Nirmir, betray him and lock yourself back into destroying the Companions
- If helping Nirmir, kill Sorik
CuCFinal: Ending the Curse (Face the consequences of your combined actions)
If Destroying the Companions:
- Henlie will ambush the player in Ysgramor's Tomb, dying trying to avenge Nirmir
- The group assaulting Driftshade is always hostile
- If Farkas and Aela are alive: Farkas and Vilkas will assault Driftshade and you kill them. Aela will convert all whelps into werewolves and you kill them.
- If Farkas is dead and Aela is alive: Vilkas, Athis, and Njada will assault Driftshade and you kill them. Aela will convert Ria and Torvar into werewolves and you kill them.
- If Farkas is alive and Aela is dead: Farkas and Vilkas will assault Driftshade and you kill them. All whelps survive the conflict.
- If Farkas and Aela are dead: Vilkas, Athis, and Njada will assault Driftshade. Ria and Torvar survive the conflict.
- Jurgis will ambush the player in Ysgramor's Tomb, dying trying to avenge Sorik
- If Farkas and Aela are alive: Nirmir will survive, Aela will convert Athis and Njada into werewolves and you kill them. Farkas and Vilkas will be cured. Farkas, Vilkas, Ria, and Torvar survive the conflict.
- If Farkas is alive and Aela is dead: Nirmir is killed. Farkas and Vilkas will assault Driftshade and you kill them. All whelps survive the conflict
- If Farkas is dead and Aela is alive: Nirmir is killed. Farkas, Athis, and Njada will assault Driftshade and you kill them. Aela converts Ria and Torvar into werewolves and you kill them.
- If Farkas and Aela are dead: Nirmir is killed. Vilkas, Athis, and Njada will assault Driftshade and you kill them. Ria and Torvar survive the conflict.
As you can see, there is no perfect solution to the mod where everyone survives. I like there to be some nuance. Sure, it can be argued that it's justifiable to kill Aela despite trying to cure the Companions, but you get Vilkas and Farkas killed too. If you spare Aela though, she dies anyway later on along with Athis and Njada. Alternatively if you're destroying them, it's actually better to let Farkas live and Aela die to save the most whelps.
You can certainly "min-max" your decisions to save the most people, but I recommend roleplaying your character, making the decision you think they would make, and going with the consequences.
