Introduction

Some weapons, vanilla or modded, don't have scabbards. What if there was a way to add them without too much trouble.
In the next few steps, I'll show you a way too add those scabbards through IED.

What do you need:

- Immersive Equipment Displays (version 1.7.0 or above) and its requirements.

How to use IED (for the purpose of this tutorial)

First, we'll need to access the IED interface while in game, the default key is "Backspace"
Then we'll need to choose where to apply the presets. We'll be using the "Actor" tab and set a "Custom" preset for the player character.

After the interface is opened, we'll need to switch to "Custom" view:



In Custom view, it's possible to create a new preset or use an existing one.

Now, we need to create a new custom display, by clicking here:


After creating the new display, we'll begin the configuration.
In "Item", toggle "Single" and then "Inventory item" and in "Additional item" click on the arrow to "add one" or "add multiple" if you wish:


We'll be adding the Silver Greatsword for this tutorial, but you can use any two-handed sword that doesn't have a scabbard.
With the additional items, you can configure the preset for more than one weapon.

After that, we'll need to set up a "Model swap". Click on the arrow and then in "Browse". Select one weapon that has a scabbard. For example, the steel sword:


You can optionally toggle "Must be favorited" too.

Now, under "Geometry", toggle "invisible":


Now, we can select the node for the scabbard. Choose the same as the weapon and use "Reference" as well.
Then adjust the coordinates and scaling to your liking. I think the values below are almost perfect for the Steel Scabbard and Silver Greatsword:


The next step is to create an override to disable the scabbard when the weapon is not equipped or displayed.
Click on the arrow next to" Equipment overrides" and add a new item:


Expand the "Conditions" and then click on the arrow to add a new one. Select "Type>Two-Handed Sword":


Now, click on the "Two-Handed sword", check these options and toggle "Disabled". This will ensure that the scabbard will not be displayed when the weapon is not equipped or displayed.


You can also add new conditions, such as disable when not wearing any armor for example.

Final result

You can also use the scabbard as "straps" to support other stuff, such as potions:

In the image above, the "Iron mace" scabbard was being used.


How to apply an existing preset

In the files section, you can find the preset in this tutorial.
To use it, go to the custom view, in the presets section, select the preset "Scabbard" and click on:
"Apply", if you don't have any custom presets.


"Merge", if you already have some presets.

    I can't find the option for "Geometry" do you know where to find it?

    I can’t for the life of me figure out how to apply this when I have Witcher-style two swords to have the scabbard consistently apply to:
    1/ equipped weapon (a specific, named one)
    2/ unequipped (displayed) weapon in primary greatsword slot
    3/ unequipped (displayed) weapon in the Witcher 2nd slot (as the last/previous weapon)

    I can’t get 3/ to work at all, and also when I equip another greatsword the scabbard from the named sword is displayed on top of that other sword when I try tweaking some settings to make everything work.

    I’m at a loss, would appreciate any pointers.

      Hey, combining different displays can be a bit tricky. But try doing this.

      1. Take the Scabbard on Back preset as a basis, change it to last equipped and add this condition and biped slots (this is for the main weapon):

      2. Copy this display and use it for the secondary weapon, with this condition:

      Note that this will create the display for all Two-handed swords. If you want, you can add a new condition by form and select specific swords to create the display for.

      You're such an MVP, man!

      I actually ended up teaching myself how to use Blender and Nifskope, and adding a custom scabbard directly to the NIF file, but I'll try these settings on the next occasion, looks legit!

      Oh yeah, it's better that way if you know a bit of Nifskope.
      The method on this guide is more like a band-aid solution.
