Introduction
Ever wanted to show your equipped two-handed swords like Geralt of Rivia? Now you can.
What do you need:
- Immersive Equipment Displays and its requirements.
- And a little bit of tweaking with IED.
How to use IED (for the purpose of this tutorial)
First workaround
There's a preset to apply this if you've downloaded the file from the mod's page. But you can follow this tutorial for DIY purposes.
In this workaround, the weapons will keep swapping places when equipped. If you don't like this, then jump to the next workaround at the bottom.
First, we'll need to access the IED interface while in game, the default key is "Backspace"
Then we'll need to change the position of the Two-Handed weapon a little bit.
Go to "View>Gear nodes":
P.S.: In versions earlier than 1.7.0, this window was called "Gear positioning". In most recent versions, it's called "Gear nodes":

We'll be using the "Actor" tab and the Player character.
In "Positions" find "Two-Handed" and expand.
Then tweak the "Position" and "Rotation" coordinates to your liking, I think the image bellow has some good values:

Now we'll need to switch to "Custom" view.
Go to VIew>Display Manager>View>Custom Items:

In Custom view, it's possible to create a new preset or use an existing one.
Now, we need to create a new custom display, by clicking here:

After creating the new display, we'll begin the configuration.
Expand the new display, and toggle "Last equipped".
In "Conditions (item filtering)" click on the arrow to add a new condition, then select "Presence":

Click on "Presence", where it says "Inventory check", then toggle "Equipped" and "Displayed" and select "Two-Handed Melee" and "Two-Handed Sword", respectively, finally, toggle "Not".

In "Biped" click on the arrow and then on "Insert" > "Two-Handed Melee".
Remember to disable the checkboxes above the biped, like in this image (you can leave "Prioritize recent slots" enabled):

Now, select the "Node" for the two-handed sword to appear and then adjust the coordinates.
I recommend you to choose "Reference" and then the same slot as the "Placement" section of "Gear nodes". For me, it's Two-Handed (WDM).
I think the values below are good enough.

Now equip your swords at least once.
Ps: You can toggle "Must be favorite" if you wish to use only favorited weapons.
Final result:

You can (and should) tweak your other weapons displays to better fit your witcher style.
Disclaimer: While this display will automatically work for all greatswords equipped, you'll notice the swords swapping places. Also, the display won't work with two weapons of the same ID.
If you don't like that, follow this additional tutorial.
Second workaround
This workaround will required a different approach and will not be as "automatic" as the first.
First, you'll need to find a way to separate the greatswords into two displays. It could be via a distributed keyword to specific weapons, say you've created a keyword "WeapTypeSecondary" and assigned this keyword to your secondary greatswords.
You could also directly use the secondary sword in the displays.
For the purposes of this tutorial, we'll be directly using the secondary weapon, a Silver Greatsword in this case.
Start by navigating to "View>Gear nodes", select the tab where you'd want to apply the changes and toggle "Placement", then expand the "Two-Handed" node:

Click on the arrow to add a new "Override", then select "Type>Two-Handed Sword", click on it, toggle just "Equipped" and in "Form", select the Silver Greatsword. Finally, in "Targed node" for the override, select "Two-Handed Axe", or any other suitable node:

This will basically separate the secondary sword from the "main" two-handed sword node when it's equipped.
Now, navigate to "View>Display Manager>View>Equipment Slots", select where you want to apply, and expand the "Two-Handed Sword" node:

Change the "Target node" to "Two-Handed IED":

Click on the arrow to add a new "Item filter conditions", select "Type>Two-Handed Sword", click on it and in "Form", select the Silver Greatsword, toggle the " ! " checkbox next to it and only toggle "This":

This will basically keep the primary sword in its desired node when the secondary sword is equipped whilel also filtering out the secondary sword from this display when both swords are not equipped.
Now we need to create two custom displays to show both swords at the same time.
While still in "Display manager", navigate to "View>Custom items" and select where you want to apply.
Click in "Actions" and add two new displays:

Starting with the "Primary sword", click on "Last equipped", click on the arrow and add a new "Condition". Select "Type>Two-Handed Sword", click on it and in "Form", select the Silver Greatsword, toggle the " ! " checkbox next to it and only toggle "This":

In "Biped", select "Two hand melee" and uncheck everything above it, then in "Conditions", enable "Equipment mode". You can also enable "Must be favorited" to only display favorited swords:

Finally, in "Target node" select "Two-Handed IED":

This will basically create the display for the primary sword when it's not equipped.
Now, let's create a display for the "Secondary Sword". Just basically recreate the above, only changing the "Last equipped" sword and the "Target node":

Now you should be ready to go. The only issue is changing the secondary sword when equipping a new weapon. You can create a "Group" condition or use the Keyword approach.
Final result:

i hope i'm making sense! i went over your guide three times to make sure i followed it to a T, but for the life of me i can't see what i'm doing wrong
THX <3
Yep, this in conjunction with the spears guide let me separate pikes from greatswords. Thanks.
Also, I'm impressed you keep track of 15 articles at the same time.
One last thing. Do you know where the files are exported to, so I can store a backup copy somewhere?
Most of the settings from IED are store here: SKSE\Plugins\IED\
Profiles, specifically, here: SKSE\Plugins\IED\Profiles
If you use MO2, check your overwrite folder.
If you want to use the display with just those two weapons, then folllow the tutorial to the letter and only change the silver greatsword to one of the two weapons.
If you want to use more weapons, then you'll have to create condition groups with OR statements.
Under last equipped, in Conditions filter, add Type>Two-handed axe and toggle "Not".
About the second part of the guide, update IED to the latest version. Item filter it's on "Equipment slots" btw.
fr tho I have been struggling to get this to work so badly tysm
