You may have noticed that the snow texture on tree branches and fallen tree trunks is a bit too bright, to the point it looks like plastic or dough (depending on your lighting). Worry not, there is a solution for that.
Since there are way too many snow mods out there, I've decided to simply give you instructions on how to create your own patch, so it can match the snow texture of the mod that you're already using.
Here is the process step-by-step, it shouldn't be complicated:
- The snow textures you need (from the snow mod you're using) are named snow01.dds and snow01_n.dds. Find those in your snow mod's texture files and keep that folder open. *If your snow mod's textures are packed in BSA, use Bethesda Archive Extractor to open and extract the textures somewhere where they will be easily accessible for you. Locate the extracted textures and keep the folder open.
- Create a new folder somewhere. You can do it on Desktop, or somewhere where you usually store non-system files and folders. Name that folder textures.
- Within the textures folder create a new folder and name it landscape.
- Within the landscape folder create a new folder and name it s3dtrees_and_plants.
- Copy the textures with names snow01.dds and snow01_n.dds from your snow mod's folder and paste them into the folder s3dtrees_and_plants.
- Rename the file snow01.dds into s3dtrees_snow_01.dds.
- Rename the file snow01_n.dds into s3dtrees_snow_01_n.dds.
- Zip your newly created textures folder that contains subfolders and renamed textures as previously described, by using 7-Zip, WinRAR or whatever else you normally use for compressed files. For best compatibility with game files, the zipped archive should have .zip extension. Name it whatever you like, preferably something intuitive (e.g. 3D Trees and Plants Snow Patch).
- Install this newly created archive just like any other mod, using your preferred mod manager. Make sure it is installed AFTER Skyrim 3D Trees and Plants mod; the overwrite won't be obvious because Skyrim 3D Trees and Plants has its files packed in BSA. Of course, this patch should also be installed AFTER your snow mod.
That's it, enjoy your blended snow on Skyrim 3D Trees :)
