Skyrim Special Edition

Terminology

This article summarizes all the various words that the mod uses to describe mechanics and features. Use this to get an overview and a reminder on what things mean.

  • Drawing means using the Draw spell to siphon the World, Life or Death elements.
  • Binding means using the Shout called "Bind" while holding Draw or a drawn element.
  • Ward means the spell that is (by default) equipped opposite to Draw.
  • Accumulation means drawing while holding your Ward up. This extends your Draw cast, giving you more time to aim. It also allows you to break your Ward at will to access its stamina recovery feature.
  • Life Reanimation means hitting a corpse continuously with the Drawn Life spell until it stands back up as your ally.
  • Entangling means replacing your Drawn elemental spells with spells from vanilla or any other mod.
  • Imbuing means Drawing an element and then using a specific Power (see Power summary below) to imbue it into yourself permanently. See "The Imbue system" under the Description tab for details on exactly what this does.
  • Focus refers to the various Spell-/Power-equipping behaviors of the mod. When a spell or ability is equipped, it is "focused".
  • Bound Weapon means the weapon summoned by Binding while not holding any drawn element (requires Elemental Binding unlock). Does not refer to normal vanilla Bound Weapons.
  • Weaving Circle is an ability granted by the Elemental Binding unlock book and is summoned by Binding World.
  • Death Rune is an ability granted by the Elemental Binding unlock book and is summoned by Binding Death.
  • Flamestrike is an ability granted by the Elemental Binding II unlock book and is summoned by Binding any element inside the Weaving Circle.
  • Attuning yourself to an element means using an element in any way. Being attuned to an element does nothing on its own, it is only an indicator of the last used element for use in various combo mechanics. Attunements last for 1 hour. You can attune yourself by using an element in any of the following methods:
Drawing and casting it
Drawing and Binding it
Drawing and Imbuing it
Striking an enemy with a weapon while imbued (attunes to the imbued element)
Summoning a "weapon-ward" with a power attack or bash while imbued (attunes to the imbued element)
Being hit by your own Death Rune (attunes to Death)
Summoning a Flamestrike (attunes to World)

  • Shaping means creating a Bound Weapon.
  • Woven Power is an effect granted by attuning yourself to any element and then attuning yourself to a different element. Increases Magicka Regeneration by 15% and lasts 20s (note that Magicka Regeneration = Damage in Spellsiphon). Any additional Woven Power effects added within the 20s duration of the first will overlap, they will not refresh the duration of the first effect or each other. This means that Woven Power will ramp up to a maximum value (where each effect you add is matched by an old effect falling off) and then ramp down when you stop adding new effects.
  • Discharge means attuning yourself to an element and then summoning and hitting with a Bound Weapon. Unlocked with the "Elemental Discharge" book.
  • Overload occurs after drawing the same element into both hands within the Weaving Circle.
  • Lingering Death is a 7 second effect that is applied by the Death Rune and various Freezing combos. It allows you to Draw Death from living targets.
  • Resonance means getting "bonus" Woven Power from certain actions that aren't attunement swaps. The sources of Resonance are:
Drawing Death (either from a corpse or from a target with Lingering Death)
Transferring Death between your hands in the Weaving Circle.
Hitting with any weapon while Imbued
Performing a timed block with the Ward spell
Performing a timed block with the imbued weapon-ward

  • Animation means summoning special "Anima" creatures using your drawn elements. Unlocked with the "Elemental Animation" book.
  • Fusion means hitting an Anima or a Life-Reanimated creature with any drawn spell to trigger additional effects. Unlocked with the "Elemental Animation" book.
  • Exhaustion/Instability means you are currently affected by a cooldown on the ability in question. This effect shows the time remaining until you can use the ability again. These effects also show on SkyUIs "Active Effect Overlay".
  • Reflections are copies of your drawn spells and Bound Weapons that show in your character menus. These are only intended to display and allow comparison of the current damage of your spells and weapons (since the originals do not show in the menus). They cannot be equipped or used.

Power summary

  • Reverse: Any hand holding Draw will now hold Ward and vice versa.
  • Refocus: Simply equips you with Draw and Ward. Bind can do this too but it is very contextual. Sometimes you will want to equip Draw/Ward when Bind wants to do something else.
  • Reshape: Toggles your drawn spells between area-effect and single-target variants.
  • Realign: Toggles your drawn spells between Entangled spells and Spellsiphon spells.

All Powers listed above will toggle between two different Bound Weapon choices whenever one is summoned.
Reverse and Refocus can Imbue elements if that is enabled in the Research book (see "The Imbue System" in the main description).
