Skyrim Special Edition

Hello there, traveller!

I heard you want to add some dubstep folk music to the songs of Skyrim's Got Talent. This is actually quite easy. Some important things you must know first of all. I will repeat these things again anyway later, but it's a good general reminder.

  • Song Duration: All songs must be around 34 seconds long. When I say "around" I mean you might be able to get away with the song being 33 seconds, or 35 seconds, but that's it. To cut the song, I recommend using Audacity. In the tab "Effects" you can add "Fade In" and "Fade Out" at the beginning and the end of the song if the cut is too sudden.

  • Song format: Songs must be either in format .wav or .xvm - I recommend xvm since it's compressed and wav files are way too big. To transform between wav -> xvm I use Yakitori. It's super simple to follow. Please, note: the game does not check the file extension. The game doesn't care if your file is XVM or WAV, it just checks the name of the file. More on this later.

There are two ways to add songs:

- OPTION A: REPLACING SONGS THAT ARE THERE ALREADY.

Step 1:
Simply grab your xvm or wav song, navigate to my mod folder and go to sound/fx/_Talent_BardSongs. Here you will see I neatly organized all the songs by duos/singles and instruments in folders. It's the same for both, so let's look at single instruments. Each instrument has 5 folders, one for each music level (Clueless, Beginner, Average, Good, Master). You will get it super easily once you look at it. All you have to do if you just want to replace one of the existing songs is to change the name of your custom song to one of the existing songs of my mod, remove the original file and place yours instead in the same folder. As mentioned earlier, song must be xvm/wav format and be 34 seconds. The format does not have to match with the existing one, but the rest of the name must be 100% the same.

Super easy to understand as mentioned. Just navigate to the right folder and put the song there

- OPTION B: ADDING NEW SONGS:

Step 1: BASIC PREPARATION:
To add a new song, your song must be in wav format (at least at first, you can replace them with xvm later) and be 34 seconds long. Think about which level of music you want the song to be (From clueless to master), decide what instrument it should be played with and then we're ready to go.

Step 2: PLACING THE SONG IN THE RIGHT FOLDER:
Once the song has the correct length/format, navigate through my mod folders Data/Sound/fx/_Talent_BardSongs to find the right place to put it in. In here you will see lots of folders very conveniently named. Should be very easy to figure out where you want to put your song. Just drop the song in the folder of your choice based on the instrument/level. As for the file name, you can name the song anything you want, but as mentioned, it must be in wav format.

Step 3: TELLING THE GAME WHERE THE NEW SONGS ARE:
Almost done! Open my mod in xEdit (or Creation Kit, but you kids hate poor good ol' CK), navigate to Sound Descriptor. Here, I have named the descriptors accordingly, so it should be easy to tell what it what. (Here's an image in case you get lost) Now all you have to do is open one of them (the one you want your song to be based on instrument and level), and right click where it says "SOUNDS", and then click on "Add". Now, following the similar path to all the other files you see here, add the path to your file. Like this. Once this is done, close xEdit, when it asks you to save, click yes and you're done!

DONE!

Final thoughts: The songs are randomized, so each time you play music (with the right instrument/level) one of the songs listed here in this descriptor will play. You can increase the chances of your song playing by removing the other songs from here. It must be done here and NOT simply by removing the song files from the folder we put the files in, as that would just result in "silent" music.

Hope this guide serves you well! Ask away if you have any questions. If you get permission from the songs, I of course welcome expansions to my song repertoire via your own files and the like. Have fun, stay safe!

SSEedit won't let me type in my wav file's directory after I click add sound. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
