Intro
Hello there! If you're interested in me creating a UI overhaul for Skyrim, which by the way I'm planning to make several different 'themes', with the Weathered Nordic theme being the first, and if you can help me with certain things, I'd be glad to accept that help.

There are some areas where I need help with some things because either I lack the technical knowledge/skill, or don't have the tools. My project is ambitious, I know, but it's been a year since I've been wanting to make this happen, and I have a lot of already made assets and concepts floating purposelessly in my hard drive which were meant to be for this UI overhaul. However, the project won't come to fruition soon because I am definitely very lost on a lot of things. I'll try to list down everything I need help with, because I really need all the help anyone can give, and I'm willing to put in lots of hours learning things before I dive into this, because learning all of them along the way, I've found out, is very counter-productive, as I'll be prone to making several non-standard steps which I could replace with essentially half the time and effort — steps which are probably a lot more efficient and reliable. I'm generally looking for someone who can provide me a very streamlined workflow so I can work very efficiently in doing this big project.

Things I Already Know (Correct me if I am wrong, though)

  • I need to work with Adobe Flash CS4 for the best compatibility — I think a lot of the provided files were compiled in CS4, so I take it I need to decompile them using CS4, then recompile them using the same thing. Or at least decompile them with a version that I'll also use to recompile them, right? Also I think CS4 is the best option for Action Script?
  • I need a Flash Decompiler — currently, I use JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler. There's no option in there for decompiling to CS4, would that be a problem?
  • I need an image editing tool — for this I use Adobe PS. But I need to work on scalable graphics for the most optimal crispness. Would working with Adobe Illustrator CC work? Is there a better alternative? I mainly stay away from Adobe products since I really don't need a lot of the features, so if you can personally attest to a lighter (preferrably free) alternative that handles path creation similar to Adobe products, that'd be great.
Things I need
  • If someone can tell me their entire workflow, from decompiling shockwave files until the end, that would be great. Someone experienced in this area, please message me! I've no problems producing assets, but my Flash skills are very terrible since I only learned Flash in one semester back in college and that was only for 2D animation, not for application development. Since a lot of the menus in Skyrim rely on CS4, it's hard to find which sources as well are reliable and applicable with CS4 or Action Script. If you've no time, but can point me to (a) similar workflow/s, please link me to them.
  • Someone I can possibly consult on these things from time to time. I really don't want to bother a lot of mod authors here who are busy creating their own mods, but if anyone has knowledge with Flash CS4, importing/exporting assets, JPEXS, and relevant things, and if you have time, please send me a message so we can communicate and I can finally start doing this. I promise to be an avid learner and a good correspondent. But since I'll be asking a lot of questions, please make sure you can answer them kind of soon, too. If you're extremely busy with life outside the Nexus, please say so, so that I can also ask other people for info because I really, really want to do this. From time to time You can probably call me via Discord, if you prefer that over messaging here.
  • Someone to consult with design-wise. I'd love to have someone help me design the UI. You don't need to be an artist, since I'll be doing everything, but I want to have constant opinions and suggestions regarding my work in progress since I'm not immune to creating design flaws that will only serve to be problems later on. I like to keep my UI design as close to possible as being useful without being unnecessarily flashy or overly decorated.
  • Someone who can teach me how to incorporate simple animations in Flash for the UI. Basically, hover states/entrance animations of things like buttons or selection indicators, and intros/exits of menus. This would probably require me to learn Action Script for both the animations and detecting mouse events, though like I said, I'm willing to put effort into this.

When I look at Flash, I'm simply overwhelmed. I'm not too intimidated by it, since I know I can learn it, but Flash CS4 is so old that I can find very little guides which would tell me the best practices with it and all.
