Curious birds with exuberant black plumage, crows are docile and fearless animals, enjoying living close to human civilizations, for their own benefit, feeding on leftovers left by their inhabitants. They are animals with a preference for cold, cloudy locations, populating mainly the cities at the north of Skyrim such as Dawnstar and Windhelm, building their nests, and resting, on roofs and other tall structures. They also populate Morthal and its fog-filled marshes, in search of food, especially any eventual carcass, be it animal or person.

They are commonly associated with witches, due to their preference for dark places, and because of this they are often used by them as messenger animals. There are also reports of some witches capable of turning into crows. Because of this, they are also common near Hagravens' nests. It is also a reason why they were chased away from Winterhold by the College, since the mages feared that some of the crows might be spies for dark magical organizations, or even transformed witches.

(some final notes: this mod adds crows in two ways, one, are the npc crows that roam the ground, and that can be killed and have their feathers removed and used for alchemy. These only occur within the city of Windhelm. The other crows are animated objects, which move part of the bodies, but which are positioned on top of buildings and trees, and occur in Dawnstar, Morthal and its marshes, Hagravens' nests, also on Windhelm, and some other places. Such a difference was necessary since it is impossible to place npcs on top of trees, roofs, top of ruins or statues. Also for reasons of applicability, animated object crows cannot be killed or interacted, because their destruction would cause problems in their subsequent respawn in the same exact position where they were previously , and you would end up with new floating crows. One last detail, due to the havok and its buggy skyrim settings, eventually some of the structures made by hagravens with bone and deer horns may fall, or half fall, leaving one or another crow floating in the air. This is a vanilla bug, and even without the mod installed, half of the structure falls off leaving the other half floating sometimes, so there is nothing that can be done, although it is something very rare.)
