Skyrim

Notification of scheduled down-time - 8th June

  • Comment
I am happy to announce that we believe we are finally ready to move Skyrim Nexus over to our new code base and start moving on with our plans to improve the functionality and feature sets on the Nexus sites.

As the largest site in the network, we've left Skyrim Nexus until last due to the staggering amounts of traffic the site still receives. We want to make sure everything is optimised to reduce the chances of catastrophic failure. We've been using the other converted sites as benchmarks to root out and fix any inefficient areas of the code.

We're pencilling in tomorrow morning (the 8th of June) at 10am GMT for the necessary down-time in order to backup the current site and convert it to the new code base. During this period Skyrim Nexus will not be accessible (but other Nexus sites, and the forums, should be). Once we've gotten the site back up we'll closely monitor the situation and ensure that everything is working.

Once finished, the new site will already contain the recently announced content filtering system that will enable you to filter out any content that you do not wish to see, and we'll be very close to releasing our next major update to the Nexus network.

For those complaining about timeout errors, or general slowness, Dark0ne and his staff are aware of this, and are working on it. See the latest news article for Dark0ne's comment and advice:

Chances are it won't be right till tomorrow, or the next day at this rate. I've waited all day long, and the site is still so frustratingly slow, and errors here and there, mysql errors too, which is bad.

I hope it gets sorted out soon. As frustrating as it is, I still can't stay away.

I can't even get the "Latest Mods" Section to even move to the 2nd page, by clicking "2"... it just refreshes the 1st page instead.

Very frustrating. But whatever, I'll just wait till tomorrow I guess...

Excellent news! A big thanks to all who have worked to get the new features implemented. I'm very happy to see that the latest files section now allows us to go back as far as we want and not just 10 pages. The tag block system is great, simple and user-friendly. Though, as others have said before when the subject has been discussed, when uploading a mod the author really should be forced to tag it for at least one category. Some uploaders seem unfamiliar with the tag system (I sure was for a long time) and therefore leave their mods entirely untagged.

Its probably just gonna take some more time than expected. No need to panic or throw rocks at the people working so hard to make Skyrim so much more attractive to the players.

Yeah it's very... Weird, keep getting this error more often than not 'Fatal error: Call to a member function prepare() on a non-object in /home/skyrim/public_html/Core/BBoC.pinc on line 803' =_= hope it's fixed soon because right now it seems as if the previous site was more functional lol.

Chiming in. Seeing a lot of this error too when loading file pages, though the line #s vary slightly (usually 800ish). Also the description tabs on mods are sometimes loading blank, with only the copyright footer showing, and you have to either the files or images tab and back again to get it to display. And... maybe its just me, but the whole site feels like its loading a whole lot slower than it used to. <img class=">

Yes, when it actually does work it is slower for sure <img class=">

When I try to go to some pages on the Nexus site, I sometimes get the following error: Fatal error: Call to a member function prepare() on a non-object in /home/skyrim/public_html/Core/BBoC.pinc on line 819, the exact line number changes.

But, sometimes when I try to go back to the same pages, just a minute later, it works.

Perhaps, this is when we would've gotten a message about how busy the site is, before the upgrade. If that is the case, then coming back when the Nexus is not quite so busy will alleviate the problem.

The line number is always the same for me. See my post earlier for a screenshot of what I get, It's on Page three, I think. I hope this is because they are still working on it, otherwise they've got a real problem.
