Fixes for patch 1.2 problems coming in incremental update next week

  • Comment
In the announcement about the Creation Kit, Bethesda also shared some information about the broken 1.2 patch. An "incremental update" will be coming next week for PC (end of that week for consoles) that fixes issues such as the non-function elemental resistances (already fixed by SKSE) and backwards-flying dragons. No word on what else, if anything, will be fixed.

Bethesda also mentioned that their current focus is on "code" fixes, with "data" fixes (such as to quests) waiting until January at the earliest. You can also read their non-apology for patch 1.2:

We all know this is a huge game, and everyone has a different experience. We’ll continue to do everything we can to make the game better and better for as many people as possible every day. We’ve also realized that with the millions upon millions of people playing Skyrim, we need to treat our updates with greater care. If we get too aggressive trying to fix a minor issue, we run a risk of breaking something larger in a game like this.

Okay, enough of these so called fixes. Installed 1.3 and got two CTDs without warning in two consecutive gameplay sessions. Went back to 1.1 with the >2GB memory use flag flipped. Never had crashes with that version. I count myself lucky that I've set a restore point for 1.1.

Also, 1.3 did not fix the 'if the dead dragon twitches, no dragonsoul for you' bug.

The 51mb patch is the fix for 1.2, yes.
Now let's hope we don't need a fix for the fix of 1.2.

It also prevents the "Book duplication glitch" exploit. So no more infinite Infiniums for anyone...

    QUOTE popcorn71:
"As much as I agree with you, I really with you didn't feel the need to bring politics into the discussion."

This topic IS political. Because Bethesda aren't the only ones who behave... well, the way they behave. Just think of companies like Ubisoft or EA for example. The topic is: Is it fair, ok or even justified to make the customer undergo broken, bug-ridden Software while making him pay a huge amount of money? Wouldn't it even be more clever to treat the customer well? Or at least less ignorant?

In our world, every company is set to making money in a small amount of time. To have proper figures for the last business quarter. Add to this the tight release schedules for software in the competitive run. "Customer? F**** the customer, we need proper figures. And a good PR management for a good reputation."

It's the profit which is in power.

But: We customers should be the ones in power, and we should be aware of that, no matter what we buy. It is OUR money we spend, and it's OUR nerves which Bethesda and other software companies trample upon.

Meanwhile it's wednesday and still nothing heard of the patch-fixing patch. And we do not know if the incremental update really fixes the 1.2-bugs or if it makes it all worse.

This, at least for me, is the last chance that I give a game producer. If the whole debacle isn't fixed until the end of this week, I will NEVER AGAIN buy a game on its release date, and I'm not sure if I will buy games ever again. Perhaps I will pick up a game from time to time from the rummage tables when the hype is over and the worst bugs are REALLY fixed.
I am fed up with this s#*!, really. And I don't only mean Bethesda, but I mean them, too. This Skyrim-Creation-Kit-SteamPatch-Patch1.2-desaster, the whole thing that went on since 11.11., was the last straw. I've done with that.

One former games buying customer in germany less.

It sounds more like Newt Gingrich wrote that non-apology We were working so hard on our hugely awesomely awesome game, that of coarse it caused us to falter, and a few minor, rare, insignificant game breaking issues some of our less important customers started experiencing because we are so awesome they are unable to understand such minor annoyances should be acceptable when you consider how awesome and big this game is. Did we mention this game is the best thing ever and it's the users fault for not just living with our rare and minor bugs which ruin the game according to some of our customers who were dumb enough to actually buy a Bethesda game at launch. Any regular Bethesda customer knows that when we charge $60 per title we are actually allowing them to beta test our games for us, we haven't actually done any real programming or development since Morrowind, and it's the customers fault for not realizing this fact. Again I would like to reassure everyone that this is a massive game, so of course there will be game breaking glitches whenever we patch it, I mean, we are obviously incompetent, and it's your fault for not realizing it before you gave us your money. I am typing this from my phone while I wait in line at the bank to cash yet another massive profit check, have fun playing Morrowind:New Skyrim. We'll patch the game for real once sales start to diminish, charge you for it, and call it DLC. -Bethesda Development (Haha! That's more of a contradiction in terms than Military Intelligence!)

As much as I agree with you, I really with you didn't feel the need to bring politics into the discussion.

Sarcasm with a good deal of truth in it. I heard rumours that exactly that is the reason why many people don't buy games anymore, or just buy them years after their release, when you can find them for peanuts on some rummage table. And to be honest, little by little I begin to understand that.

Yes, support good games. Buy them. And Skyrim is such a game, undoubtedly.

BUT, DEAR SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS, WHAT ABOUT YOU SUPPORTING HONEST CUSTOMERS IN RETURN instead of trying to f*** them with broken patches and copy protection patronising?

The only thing that sucks for me is the resistance issue. I haven't crashed since I started using the 4GB patch on this site. It was crashing every 5 minutes before then.
