Skyrim

Creation Kit release speculation

  • Comment
Congratulations to all who have the game unlocked and are playing, and good luck to all those still waiting!

If you're looking to get straight in to modding Skyrim then you'll be wanting to get your hands on the SDK that Bethesda have dubbed the "Creation Kit". However, Bethesda, as is their way, are not pinning any specific time or date on a release of the Creation Kit so we're going to have to sit-tight and wait patiently.

Bethesda have just opened up their mod subforum on the official forums. Pinned at the top is a little note from community manager GStaff on the matter:

The team is working to get it released as quickly as possible. As soon as we have more information to share, we'll let you know.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy some research while playing through the game. Feel free to use this board to discuss the modding projects you're thinking about.

That implies to me that it's going to be a little while yet (whether it's days or weeks, I couldn't say), but they'll come up with the goods eventually.

So, in the meantime, you can either play the game, or come up with your own ways to tweak the game and share with others. There are already a couple of these tweaks in the mod database. Oh, and don't forget to share your glorious screenshots of Skyrim with others in our Image Share section.

    Creation Kit release: January

Creation Kit — Beginning in January, PC players will be able to download the same development tools we used at Bethesda Game Studios to create Skyrim. In tandem with the Creation Kit’s release, we will roll out a new Wiki and videos to help you get started. It also features something we think you’re going to love…

...So the Nexus is obsolete, and the kit is delayed yet again. Great.

Ok, ok. Magic is easier to use than in previous ES games. But in Morrowind and Oblivion, it was BARELY worth using at all. At least in this game, destruction magic can clear a room.

More on that, i've specialized in magic and dual-wielding for my first play through, and I find that magic can be disadvantageous in many situations. Even with multiple enchantments, you can still run out very fast, and can't effectively stop the charging of multiple enemies without several potions.

On a side note, dragons would be way cooler if they attacked head-on rather than flying around until you shoot them outa the sky. Seriously, they're not even a challenge once you hit level 10.

If you can't prepare, that's your problem. Stupidity is not a balancing factor.

    Hi there.
I have no idea why you think the game is broken.

Ummmm....apart from the fact that many people with 64 bit OS and more than 2Gb RAM need a third party programme to run the game with? And have you read how the 1.2 update has wrecked folks' games?

Not what we were talking about. We were referring to the complete lack of gameplay balance.

    Hi there.

I have no idea why you think the game is broken. For starters, if you kill things too easily, it's because your difficulty setting is too low. Set that thing to maximum, and you're struggling to stay alive. Furthermore, unlike in Oblivion, it isn't possible to become extremely proficient in multiple combat styles unless you want to sacrifice everything else (due to the perks, mostly).

Magicka is awesome from the get go. This is contrary to all previous installments of ES. To balance this, it actually does get more difficult to use. You can't just use destruction. You either have to stock up on potions or level up other magicka perks. If you balance your play style with the demands of Skyrim's new leveling system, you can pretty much do anything. You just have to plan accordingly.

The best way to put it is this: Oblivion was Halo (yeah, I'm a beast). Skyrim is Black Opps (s***. Gonna die)

The issue is how much easier it is to kill things with magic than it is with weapons. And more to the point, you can increase it faster as well. It's so much better than weapons, regardless of difficulty, that the weapons aren't worth using. This is a problem.
