Shalahad's first memories are of her as a child, running through a snow-covered forest. Desperate to escape something or someone yet being too afraid to glance over her shoulder even once. Exhausted, she collapsed in the snow only to realize she wasn't alone. She was face to face with a large white wolf surrounded by an unnatural mist. It felt cold on the skin yet it didn't bother her. Cu'Sidhe, the white wolf, took her in and took care of Shalahad as if she was one of his own pups.
From the very start, it had been Destiny that had made their paths cross. Both of them were meant to bound and later become Reapers of souls; tracking malevolent spirits that escaped their afterlife to plague the living. While also guiding back the lost souls back to the Guardians of the Underworld.
Shalahad and Cu'Sidhe were captured by agents of the Thalmor. They were separated during their imprisonment. For decades, they were tortured relentlessly. All the anguish they endured and the rage bottled inside their being ended up corrupting their nature.
