Description:

This mod is about Role-playing.
In the original game, you have three options to finish the quest The Whispering Door, all implying either stealing or killing, therefore, very limited choice considering finishing of the quest.

This mod adds additional options, which allow you to obtain the Ebony Blade and lift the curse from the Jarl Balgruuf the Greater's child, by taking away the Daedric Artifact, being a Good Alignment Character.

Role-playing aspect:

Deciding to help the Jarl, you investigate. You talk to Nelkir, and find out about the locked door, which seems to be covered in blood. Trying to open the door you hear the mysterious Whispering Lady.
Daedric prince Mephala tells you that some of her power is locked behind the door and that she needs you to release it. She had been corrupting Nelkir, but found limits to what she could accomplish with a child. You, though, have promise, in comparison. She will tell you to ask Nelkir how you can go about getting the key to the door.
Nelkir will tell you that only the Jarl and the Court mage, Farengar Secret-Fire, possess a key to the Whispering Door, and, being cursed, cruelly suggests that Farengar will not be missed should he disappear.
You investigate and find that Jarl indeed has the key you can pickpocket, and that Farengar has the key from his personal strongbox on his hands, but not the key to the Whispering Door. You find the Farengar's strongbox in his room, locked on the Expert level lock. Being a Thane of Whiterun, you have the trust of the Jarl, and can ask directly to give you the key, for you to help him and his child.
Now, you should decide what to do next. You have five options now.

And after the obtaining... probably sell it on the Oblivion Black Market.

Q: Changelog of the latest version?
A:

Added the fifth option, to persuade the Jarl to give you the key, if you are a Thane of Whiterun.
It is hoped that the only people having access to this room should be the Jarl of Whiterun and his trusted wizard.”. You can persuade the Jarl to trust you on this matter, if you are a Thane (precisely, own a house in Whiterun and has a key from it in inventory. Made for the maximum compatibility with mods like Skyrim Unbound, where you can purchase a house from the beginning of the game).

Q: Does this mod changes the original quest's options?
A: No, this mod adds an additional option.
Q: Would a Good Alignment Character wield the Ebony Blade?
A: According to the Lore of the Blade, you would not. In my other mod, I've created the logical role-playing option to make the fine replica of this two-handed katana (nodachi), if you are a skilled blacksmith, who knows techniques of Ebony Smithing and Arcane Blacksmithing, after the obtaining the Blade.

Light mod, should be compatible with everything.
